Ryanair - flight and hotel??

Hi
I am planning to book a holiday to Crete flying with Ryanair.

If I book my hotel via Ryanair do I get any ABTA backing? I could not find anything in their website.

If not does it make any difference if I book my hotel separately say via Booking.com?  (I will have travel insurance). Booking.com has more options.

    Neither RyanAir or Booking.com are ABTA members - so no.

    I think you might be thinking of ATOL protection.

    RyanAir.com comes under the Irish operation and as such they have no need to sell ATOL protected travel arrangements.

    If you booked with EasyJet, an overseas flight and accommodation at the same time, you would have ATOL protection.

    Unfortunately no flights with Easyjet or Jet 2 to the Airport/resort and dates I was interested in.

    Is there any risks with Ryanair I should be aware of?  I know they have a mixed reputation in social media.  I will have comprehensive travel insurance.

    Hi Mutley

    You are best to book the flight and the accom at the same time with them - then you will get additional protection under the Linked Package regulations - also pay with a Credit Card
    I hate Ryanair as when things go wrong they are terrible ....but if you don't have much choice then that's the best you can do for yourself - the way to deal with them is to follow their rules - make sure your Passport meets their daft 6 mths no extension rule - check in online - have the right size bag etc etc
    But if you have to use them then booking both elements at the same time will give you a small amount of additional protection

    If, after selecting and paying for one travel service, you book additional travel services for your trip via our website, you will not benefit from rights applying to packages under Directive (EU) 2015/2302. Therefore, we will not be responsible for the proper performance of those additional travel services. In case of problems please contact the relevant service provider.

    However, if you book any additional travel services during the same visit to our website, the travel services may become part of a linked travel arrangement. In that case we have protection in place, in accordance with EU law, to refund your payments to us for services not performed in the unlikely event of our insolvency, and, where necessary, for your repatriation. Please note that this does not provide a refund in the event of the insolvency of the relevant service provider.

    Thanks appreciate the feedback. First time flying since 2019, and first time with Ryanair (not my first choice airline!)

    The only benefit for booking hotel and flight together seems to be insolvency failure.
    So I will check if they have the hotel I was interested on Booking.com or lastminute, otherwise probably book them separately.

    The risk is that if Ryanair cancel the flight you may end up paying for a hotel that you can’t travel to .

    If you have no package  option available to you - minimise the risk by booking  a hotel rate that will allow you to cancel up til the last minute and will refund you.

    Also take out a good travel insurance policy that covers consequential losses if your flight is cancelled . Make sure you understand the T&Cs of the policy and that you understand how much excess you may have to pay if you need to make a claim .

    Checked with Staysure insurance. If at worst case Ryan air cancelled my flight, the comprehensive policy does not cover hotel losses.

    Any recommendations for insurers that cover additional losses?  All hotels i checked on booking.com want payment 5 days before the start date.

    But what’s the cancellation terms?  I still book flights and hotels individually but make sure the hotel cancellation policy is either no charge or only the first night is charged.  I find you  get a far better choice of hotel going independently.

    On booking.com with 2 properties I am interested in these are the terms, despite saying pay at the property.

    ===
    Cancellation You may cancel free of charge until 14 days before arrival. If you cancel in the 14 days before arrival, the cancellation fee will be 50% of the total price. If you don’t show up, the no-show fee will be the total price of the reservation.

    Prepayment No prepayment is needed.

    =====

    Cancellation You may cancel free of charge until 7 days before arrival. You will be charged 50% of the total price if you cancel in the 7 days before arrival. If you don’t show up, you will be charged the total price of the reservation.

    Prepayment No prepayment is needed.

    No credit card needed to book. We'll send you an email confirming your reservation.

    Any clarification appreciate if i have misread these.

    Are you sure about that? It's a pretty rubbish insurance if it doesn't cover costs incurred due to flight cancellation, I suspect it does.

    Personally I would not book under those terms and conditions.  Flights can be cancelled just hours before you go which is not so bad if you are going somewhere busy and there are other flights, if it’s a remote place with one flight a week then you stand to loose too much financially.

      I read it as if all goes well and you turn up, you pay on arrival.  If you cancel within the 14 or 7 days you then have to pay 50%.  I don’t read those terms as needing prepayment.
