Easyjet new policy on cabin baggage???

Friends reported to me that they were getting on a flight to Bodrum yesterday morning from Luton, when an Easyjet rep made customers at the boarding gate pay £25 to put their cabin baggage into the hold, citing a new policy that hand baggage with wheels is no longer allowed in the cabin! He said this information was on the Easyjet Web Site! I fly out on a similar flight soon and am worried. I have checked the Easyjet Web Site carefully. It quotes the sizes of hand baggage allowed "(including any handles or wheels)" which is normal procedure as far as i know. Can anyone shed any light on this? It is impossible to get to speak to a real person at Easyjet these days!

I can only assume the hand luggage in question exceeded the size - when measurements included the wheels ?

what sort of ticket did your friend have? (and you for your trip)
If Standard ticket then that includes small bag to go under the seat in front only (nothing in overhead locker)
If Standard Plus with upfront seating then it would have included- One large cabin bag (max 56 x 45 x 25 cm)
- One small under seat cabin bag (max 45 x 36 x 20 cm)

I thought so too, but it wasn’t the case. I have been in touch directly by Video link with my friends. It was definitely about a new policy not to allow wheels on cabin bags!0

Sounds like the rep was making it up as he went along if there’s nothing on the website. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
what was the dimensions of the hand luggage and had they purchased a fare that included it or the standard fare that is only a small bag under the seat in front?
this is an example of the maximum allowed https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09NNK9HMG/?coliid=I1F4CPX9YEHOUY&colid=25R4E9A8NX9J4&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it&th=10
