LastPass is not anywhere near as good as it was as a free option, the better option is Bitwarden, but it may be more complex to use than you need. Apple's keychain has gotten better over the last couple of years and if that can do the job then it may be worth experimenting with that first.

    Interesting.

    Why is that?

Does she just have an iphone ? If so then keychain is ok, if a pc/laptop too (unless an apple device) then she will need an app that is agnostic about o/s

To start with the free version is now only usable on one device type, mobile or desktop. If you want to use it on both is it £2.08 per month.

As posted earlier, iCloud passwords/keychain can be used on Windows

And if you use firefox or any browser other than chrome/edge ? Or linux, probably unlikely for the postee's mum, or even me  B) but I am only 70-2/12ths

Well she has an old iPad as well but if we're talking device / desktop then no she has no desktop.
The closest to anything non-devicey would be my sisters Macbook but I don't think she uses that at all. Maybe if she'd have to but then I think she'd probably get my sister to do [whateveritis] for her.

Yeah I've heard about that. For me that's not really a bother. I'd just pick which I'd use it most on. I wonder whether it negatively impacts on the majority or minority.

And at any rate, as I've just said - it wouldn't be an issue for my mother as she's device only (iPhone & iPad).

    As you quite rightly say.
I'm not sure technophobe and Linux can go together in the same sentence can they?

For me, if they can then we're not talking about a real technophobe :D

    Then the statement:
    can be used on Windows

Is still 100% correct, but would not apply in those scenarios.
It's not like I stated ' works on all the different computers that @debitcardmayhem can think of'. 😉

Most home users use Windows, and most of them use Chrome (or Edge).

Back to OP, if looking at a 3rd party password manager, one with sharing and emergency access would be very beneficial (don't want to get locked out of everything at the same time) Unfortunately I think that requires paid for versions.

I don't think there is an easy to use and robust solution for non techies. The least worst are probably iCloud if all Apple, or even the browsers built in password manager if same browser is used on all devices (if backed up outside of device, so account based).

I haven't found a password manager I would recommend to a non techie user, without requiring quite a few tech support calls!

Firefox is not a computer that I have dreamt up it runs fine on Windows/iOS/Mac Os/Android  but you are 100% correct it works on Windows unless you choose not to run edge/chrome ....Put it down to me being a grumpy old man  :o , I was trying to make a valid point about iCloud and despite the stats some people in the UK prefer other browsers, indeed the OP will probably verify that some users still use Windows 7  o:)

I use Bitwarden all the time but in a basic way. In other words, if I can't remember the password I open it up and find out what it is.

It automatically syncs across all my android devices and Windows pc and best of all it is free.

Indeed. While I have Chrome installed (as sometimes websites don't seem to want to work on FireFox), FireFox is my main browser and has been for probably 10-15 years now.

    I couldn't possibly comment. :)
