Unless you hear both sides of the story. The dilemma only exists in the eyes of the beholder. Pure clickbait........

Definitely a bookers benefit as its a thankless task.  I know someone who reluctantly organised a hen do for an old friend including food etc and when the nights expenses came in at slightly more than originally thought a couple of guests simply refused to pay the extra leaving her £80 out of pocket and no way of forcing them to pay even though they had fully participated in the day.  Organising holidays and events can be fraught with worry and complaint so the group booker fully deserves a cash benefit that you may not have got if they had not have stepped up.

As someone who has not infrequently been in situation where I have ended up out of pocket (people dropping out, people taking months of chasing to pay me back), I see it is as the organiser benefit. Cashback is rarely guaranteed and frequently takes ages to arrive... So I certainly wouldn't consider it in the costing.

I think it's very different if the deal is upfront... Eg a 2 for 1 voucher... Where I think it is dishonest to then expect people to pay full price if actually the cost was half of it.

It always surprises me how inconsiderate some people can be of people who organise group events. Paying late, not at all or expecting the organiser to front the cost of a last minute cancellation.

If the friend offers to book *BECAUSE* they get a benefit I'd say split the benefit. If I said that to my friends, I'd definitely split the difference, unless they all told me not to bother as a thank you. Though if it's a large group it might end up being pretty negligible overall.

Booker’s benefit. However, if you also have a cashback/rewards credit card you might feel you’ve lost out on that and someone else is gaining. But sometimes it’s not worth stressing over. Book it next time. If you don’t have a cashback/rewards card then let them book it so at least one of you benefits as it’s no cost to you.

Def a bookers bonus. I always offet to pay large restaurant bills and collect the money from thd others in order to benefit from extra Tesco points on my Tesco credit card.

I have a bunch of lovely friends who would just tell me to keep it. I know that without even having to say anything to them. That's what friendship is all about. I'd also tell any one of them to keep it if they were the person booking. But then we all know that we'd all share it anyway when we're on holiday, whether it's coffees all round one day or drinks in the bar or ice cream on the beach.

Some people have strange ideas of what the word 'friend' actually means. (Not saying that's you!)

For me, it's someone who is always there when I need them and I'm always there for any one of them. I love them all and there's never any jealousy or malice. That's what friendship is to me.

I'm going on holiday with a large group of friends
Traveling together often reveals the quality of friendships. Here's a large group and they're already in potential disagreement even before departure...

In hindsight, it would probably have been better to agree this before the booking.  The booker could certainly be at risk financially if others didn't pay up front and some acknowledgement of the work involved in booking could be made.  I used to go abroad with an orchestra (probably a larger group than you!) and the understanding was that the organiser got a free trip.  Probably the most important thing is that there is transparency.  As an incentive for prompt payment a booker might want to pass on part of the cashback.

This person spent their time booking it so I think they deserve to keep the cashback. I don’t think it’s fair that they should then spend more of their time to split the cashback with the group.
