EU roaming

I recently switched from Virgin to EE, and now have WiFi calling.  Can this be used in the EU instead of buying their roaming add-on, both receiving and making calls?

Last week I was in an area where I always struggled to get a signal, but the phone automatically switched to the WiFi calling via my mifi unit.

Unfortunately wi-fi calling doesn't work abroad on EE, so you can't use it to get around roaming charges.

Viber is an app for free messaging and calls, similar to WhatsApp but not owned by a tech giant. Viber Out is their function for calling any phone number globally at very low cost and with decent quality after loading a small sum in pounds or euros etc. I use it whenever there's no free or inclusive calling option.

Just to add, wifi calling still counts against your package calls allowance.

Obviously, if you have unlimited calls in your contract it is irrelevant, but if you have a limit of say 200 minutes per month then any calls made via WiFi calling will reduce that figure.

The OP doesn't seem to understand how wifi calling works so I have clarified an issue that may be of interest to them (and others).

If you use a VPN…then Wi-Fi calling can work

i use Surfshark and was in France last week…and managed to get it to work quite successfully
