    Only boil what you need.  If that's significantly less than the minimum mark in your kettle then consider using the microwave instead.

    (may not be the consensus though)

    Boil exactly what you need, no more. Boil more than that and you're wasting energy, no matter how many tea cosies you put on your kettle.

    My kettle has a water level guage on one side only.
    To read it while filling i have to hold it with my right hand
    then use left arm going over right arm to turn tap.
    Maybe because of that i fill or half fill. Hadnt really thought about it before.
    So for those who do fill for whatever reason it makes sense. Good idea @maxmycardagain 
    But finding a kettle cosy in Google is not comeing up with much.
