    It's not just the unit price though ... daily standing charge also needs to be borne in mind. (Although unit usage accounts for the majority of the annual cost).

  • I’m paying 19p but I’m soon to be going onto the price cap. Looking to go with Octopus but I need a smart meter to get the ev tarrif.

    I’m paying 19p but I’m soon to be going onto the price cap. Looking to go with Octopus but I need a smart meter to get the ev tarrif. 
    You can switch to Octopus and then get the smart meter installed. It took me about 6 weeks to get the meter installed after joining, during which time my tariffs were much higher. 

    You just need to keep phoning each morning to check the available smart meter install dates as they release them each day - I was initially incorrectly told that I would be contacted, but you have to chase yourself. 

    My previous supplier kept contacting me about a smart meter install (which I did want in order to move across to Octopus when my EV arrived), but then could never give me an actual appointment.
