What % of disposable income to spend on car?

Just been speaking with a friend who is waiting for their factory order Audi SUV. They were told the A3 hatch is the quickest delivery in the whole Audi range and dealers are advising around 40 weeks for that on PCP or cash orders. That’s the best and their SUV range is all way longer. And that’s for direct dealer PCP and cash orders which are prioritised over lease ones. The mind boggles with how long you’d wait for their bigger SUVs on lease but I cannot imagine it would even be worth the time ordering one right now.0

There are still deals to be had on stock cars - I've had e-mails this week for offers on stock cars to be concluded before the end of April. Kia Niro EV, Transit Custom, Audi A4, Audi Q7, Puma, Kia Sportage.
For anyone in the market for a car, it is worth signing up to the mailing lists for Brokers - and if there is something specific wanted, they may even identify something close enough to choice as to make that the way to go. I certainly would not be ordering a car on the expectation of easy cancellation for change of mind.
Even when there are supply constrained market, the normal demands of monthly targets remain and make some last week deals possible.

Yep entirely agree. There will be cancelled orders and the odd stock car. I’d be going for those rather than a lease order that easily could be two years wait if ever.Grumpy_chap said:There are still deals to be had on stock cars - I've had e-mails this week for offers on stock cars to be concluded before the end of April. Yes, the best deals on leasing are still to be found on stock cars / the odd cancelled order.

There is, of course, the fact that a "good" deal today is not what a "good" deal would have looked like a year ago.motorguy said:Good insight.

The type of car I was considering last September was at £32k "deal" and list price below £40k (just).
The similar "deal" for similar type of car (but different make and model) is £37k and list price above £40k, which is another significant cost over the life-term.
For what it's worth, the best deal I can see online for the exact same car as I was tempted by in September today is £39k and the list price has crept over the £40k threshold too.
I didn't buy in September and, fortunately, do not need to buy now. I probably will need to buy something as and when the return to office happens. That has been put back time after time and the latest is that the "Future way of working committee" was disbanded 31st March as they had completed everything they needed to and there would be a return to the office in due course, with updates to come after 4th April (which passed with no news).1 -
Yes, like you, i dont need to buy right now. We both now WFH full time, so one main car is fine. Its not the most economical thing at around 27mpg but we love it, its only 3 years old now and we're only doing about 6K a year in it anyway. Where we're both working right now are likely to make it full time permanent work from home rather than go back in to the office / and sort of hybrid working.Grumpy_chap said:

I really couldnt bring myself to paying the crazy prices for a new car and unpalatable PCP and lease deals. If i had to / have to get a second car again at some point it'll be something back the years a bit and less succeptable to any significant price realignment if / when one comes.0 -
Well I've made up my mind about the car. Now it's PCP Vs Lease.0

What car are you going for?
What are your use parameters?
With that people may be able to advise on a better or worse deal.
What lead time do you expect?
You said higher up thread that your salary had increased a lot recently. Could you cover the car if salary reverted to previous level?0 -
I'm going for an Audi Q7. I'm getting some money that will cover the car, and thus why I'm going for it. It won't affect our finances in that sense0

I only drive about 100mi max per week. 16 weeks delivery time0
