Aeroflot voucher - how can I get my money back?

Hi all,

I was due to take a trip to Russia in 2020.

Of course, because of covid I accepted a voucher from Aeroflot & it was valid for three years.

Now, because of the situation out there, there's absolutely no chance I will be able to spend it. It's for just over £500, as the trip included multiple flights.

What are my options? If I claimed through my insurance, would I be likely to stand a chance of getting anything back?

This will be one for insurance as Aeroflot haven't breached their contract with you (they are still operating flights and the voucher is still valid, although you'd need to get to Russia another way and the FDCO recommend against all travel to Russia at this time).

What you'd get from your insurance policy would depend on the terms and they may ask you to wait to see if the voucher can be used at a later date.

There's very little point in asking Aeroflot nicely to refund you, as even if they wanted to they're unlikely to be able to send you funds at this time due to sanctions as a result the illegal invasion of Ukraine by their largest shareholder.
