eBay return label states 0-2kg, item heavier

Hello.

I have an item to return and the seller has sent a return label. Trouble being the label states at the bottom 0-2 kg. The item is far in excess of this (around 14kg).

The label is with Royal Mail Tracked 48

This would seem to be an issue. Is it?

  • Hello, have you contacted the seller if this would be a problem? Depending on how good they are, they should be able to provide a label and send you one for the right weight. Last thing you would want is to take it to the Post Office and it being rejected.

The seller is not good to deal with at all.

Have an online chat with Ebay so the issue is a) logged with them and b) you have a record of it. They'll advise what to do.

If you aren't happy the label applies to the return, then RING eBay and explain.

As per theonlywayisup, phone eBay and explain, do not get fobbed off. A seller tried to do this to me a couple of years ago, eBay told them to issue a new label and when they refused eBay forced the refund without me having to return the item.

Mine was a small value item of clothing and the label was ‘obviously’ wrong. Seller had issued a label for a 2nd class letter and when I questioned them they said the PO wouldn’t notice! It was obvious to eBay that a dress could not possibly go as a standard letter.

I phoned eBay. I was advised to contact Royal Mail to change the label. Surely this would entail paying for the return postage myself. Not convinced eBay gave good advice. (Their online help function was even worse).

I phoned eBay and was advised to phone Royal Mail to have the label changed to one that matches the weight of the item. Seems like bad advice as for one thing I'd be paying the cost myself.

Phone eBay back, tell them you are in the UK and that you are not the person who organised the label.Be persistent, keep your explanation short , don’t waffle, repeat the same short explanation over and over until they understand.

  • Ebay issue a refund on a returned item as soon as the tracking states it is delivered.  If the seller refuses to send you the correct weight label as I assume they don't want to pay for cost of the return, you could (if you wanted to play them at their own game) send anything back to them using their return label - such as a polite letter advising them you will gladly return their item when they send you the correct postage.  You will get the refund when it is delivered and the seller has the problem of getting his item back

A persuasive seller though would just call eBay and claim that buyer is defrauded them, and possibly would have a small claims case against the buyer. Best to get eBay to understand the issue properly.
