Gut my mid-terraced or not?

Options
Hi,

I have a two bed mid terraced. Most of the rooms have the old blue plaster and the ceilings are lumpy with wallpaper on. I am hoping for my redundancy payment this year so I thought about moving out and having the rooms and ceilings replastered and a re-wire as it has the old wiring. I paid £34,000 six years ago for this house and I would like to get it in tip-top condition if I want to sell it in a few years. I have never before been able to afford to completely gut it. It has central heating - combi boiler, one of the radiator pipes put in the wall badly and some radiators old. I had damp proofing put in a few years ago, one kitchen wall replastered but the rest plastered half way up. The stairs will need replastering also (11-12 ft high). My house is half finished due to no funds.

What sort of builder should I be looking for and what sort of electrician.

We recently had a few different jobs done and we used a builder that several friends recommended he then sorted out the different men for the jobs done, bricklayer, plasterer window fitter etc. He had a good team that he subcontracted to and the finished job was excellent and we felt the price was reasonable. A good builder will have the right contacts and bring the men is as and when needed as he knows the order of work. Speak to a few collegues/friends/family to get the name of a builder they have used and been happy with.

  • thanks for that help. :xmastree: My house has the old blue plaster and it flakes off, the ceilings are lumpy and loose when you push them. I have loft insulation and the outside of the house is pebbledashed but they pebbles fall off. I wish it was showing original brick. How much does it cost for a re-wire?
I can not wait for smooth walls!

i can recommend a builder and a plasterer here in the salford/eccles area.
sounds like you just need the plasterer?

a terraced house rewire will cost approx 1000/2000 quid.

PM me with your details, if required.
