Without knowing which phone you are getting it is difficult to be able to advise what charger or cable is suitable.

Most Android manufacturers are moving to adaptive charging and using the PPS standard to manage this, so any charger and cables need to be complaint to this standard to work properly. Some of the Chinese manufacturers like OnePlus, Xiaomi etc are using proprietary solutions.

I wouldn't necessarily agree that OEM cables are any better than some 3rd party cables. Samsung ones for example are often quite poor. You do need to do some investigation, Anker has been mentioned as a decent brand, I have found the Intu cables (currently using their 100w PPS cables form my Google Pixel 6 Pro and can also be used for charging my Macbook Pro on the road as well. This cable is more robust than the OEM Google cable that came with the OEM charger.

I frequently buy such things from the Rain Forest (always dispatched by them) and avoid the cheapest. Then if it is no good, you can easily return at no cost to you and get a full refund.
Worth looking through a selection of the thousands of reviews such things have to get an idea what real people think.

I don't for a minute think that e-waste is the reason Apple and Samsung have decided not to include chargers with thier phones.
It is exactly the reason they have decided not to include them, same as moving to less plastics in the packaging etc. Pretty much all phone manufacturers are going this route as most people already have chargers so more are not needed.

Personally fully supportive of them not using more plastics than are needed.
You might wish to watch this. ;)

I have gone for Samsung cables and a charger from Samsung direct, I got what was described as a genuine Samsung charger from that well known rain forest site (market place) and I'm not convinced it is the real thing so have returned it, I would have got them from Samsung in the first place but they were out of stock when I bought the phone.

I still think that a phone should come with a suitable charger and it is nothing to do with e-waste that they don't.

Agreed. I bought a genuine Samsung charger

Plug it in with the genuine Samsung cable

"your phone is charging slow" or whatever warning message it was. Marvellous

    Returned.
Who exactly did you buy these "genuine" products from? Amazon, themselves or a third-party seller via Amazon.

I've always had sucess with Anker branded cables (both for my iPhone and my Samsung Galaxy) and other products (plug adapters, powerbanks etc.)
Agreed, Anker are a pretty good brand, but again you need to make sure you get the genuine product. I've got a number of their USB cables, purchased directly from the Anker store on Amazon, and can't fault them

@Jenni_d thank you for the link to the video, if makes the point far better than I could.

In answer to @shiraz99 I did buy the first charger from a third-party seller on Amazon as this was the only one I could find.

That would explain why it probably wasn't the genuine article. With things like this always buy either from Amazon themselves or the from the authorised seller.

Yes I agree, I have just received the charger from Samsung and before I returned the one from Amazon I compared the two, the one from Samsung has much clearer printing particularly the QR code although I had to magnify them to really tell.

Lesson learned, although I have looked at Anker cables and chargers and after watching the video above will consider them if I need them in the future.
