KLM - Cancelled Connecting Flight - 4 day wait!

Hi all,

Looking for some advice as have ended up in a situation we never thought we would!

My fiancé and I have been travelling back from Rio to Norwich via Amsterdam with KLM. On arrival in Amsterdam yesterday we found that our flights to Norwich have been cancelled- eventually I was given the reason as being ‘due to operations reasons’ and they won’t give me much more detail than that at the moment.

We have been booked on the next flight home which is Tuesday (26th!), despite efforts to try seek alternatives through KLM back to London instead sooner, it seems many people have been in same position. KLM have told us to book accommodation and then put in a claim once flight is complete.

There were some very expensive options through other airlines (£700+ each) but again not until at least Sunday- we didn’t book as we didn’t want to not be KLM’s responsibility plus I’m a little unsure where we stand on insurance purposes.

For the next 2 nights we are planning on moving into Amsterdam as seems no sense staying at so close to airport currently. Before moving back to airport Monday night.

Does anyone have any advice in regards to how we should handle this? I tried to contact insurance company several times yesterday evening to understand where we sit on this as I’m finding it difficult to relate the policy document directly to our situation. Their offices are now closed till Monday.

I also presume that if we can claim back through KLM we should… But if KLM reject our claim where would we stand vs insurance?
I can see we have a travel delay benefit of £50 / 12 hours upto £500, but from my calculations will only be £400 (I presume each) which will barely cover the hotel costs.

Is there anything else I could look out for in the policy document which would cover this?

Have you tried Hook of Holland to Harwich ferry ? It looks to be available today at 2pm for £50
