Wondershare - possibility of refund

Dear all:
I will try to keep this succinct as there might be information that is a little bit pointless:
Friend had Android phone with WhatsApp and wanted to transfer old chats to his new iPhone WhatsApp. There was no quick and easy way to do this other than by buying a piece of software to do the job. The program costs 25 quid for a year and I paid for it. That being said it was a nightmare to get working, I spent all day sorting it out and therefore I feel that I will never use it again and am wondering where I stand with getting money back?
I know that technically I used the product so the question might be why should I? However, I am more looking at the likelihood of being able to get money back not the legitimacy or ethics of the claim. I paid using my credit card through PayPal. The company said that their refund policy stipulates they only offer refunds in the case that a technical issue cannot be resolved. However, having once studied law, my lecturer told me just because something is written in a contract doesn't mean it is binding or legitimate, and I aim to see if that is the case here.

Thanks

Aside from anything else, Wondershare are based in China, what law does your agreement say the contract is governed by?
In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces2 -
The important questions is: did it do what you needed it to do? If so, I can't see you have a claim for a refund. You've used the product for the purpose for which it was purchased. I'd leave a critical but honest review and leave it at that.2

@Aylesbury_Duck I agree, I am just annoyed at the amount of time it took, I had to investigate the cause of the issue, through extensive Google searching, forums, etc. It is almost like a carpet fitter came round offered free installation and then rolled it out and gave you the hammer to secure the carpet to the wall.
I know I am on shaky ground because it does do what it said but as there is no proof that it did what it said, could I claim money back with PayPal?
This is more of an academic question now as yes it is probably not fair to do this as, like you said the product did what it needed to...eventually.0 -
@the_lunatic_is_in_my_head
It doesn't it is just a long list of the things they don't refund for - there is no mention of any statutes or consumer charters. I guess the main cause for my gripe is that they seem to be going for the "computer says no" approach or "it is written so therefore it is true"

Even if a Chinese company says they are governed by UK laws, how are you going to enforce a judgement against them if you get it?0 -
But you used it to do the job you needed it to do, how you got there isn't really an issue.
You don't have a case for a refund here.0 -
It has been years since I have had to transfer WhatsApp but I thought I just backed it up to WhatsApp and then restored it onto the new phone? But that was Android to Android, maybe that doesn't work for iOS.Past caring about first world problems.0
