And don't forget to collect your bonus £50 for using a friend's referral code when you do switch to Octopus.

I believe in order to avoid a stanfing charge the meter has to be disconnected.
Any gas safe registeted gas engineer can cap off the incoming supply. The pipe is left in situ.
The last time i did one i charged 60 quid, took 15 mins on my way back home. I think the supplier wanted a photo it had been removed.
If you found somone local and were flecible enough for him to do "on his way past" it wouldnt cost much.

As a matter of interest what did you do with the meter and how did the supplier get the final reading?

Any gas safe registered engineer can indeed cap a mains gas supply, but they can't remove the meter so you'd still have to pay Standing Charge.

Leave it at the property. Its not my meter. Customer takes a photo, records the reading its thier bill.
    Supplier can collect the meter.

Not so. On the occasions i have been asked to do this, thecustomer has been inbattle with the supplier. One was a factory, the sc was large. Remember that dealing with large companies is total grief. Eventually they will inspect and stop the standing charge.

A gas safe engineer should to take the meter  out  and connect bridging earth bonding when working on the gas pipework. They can and do

Lol, sorry I actually forgot I posted this question 🤦‍♂️

The only thing we have on gas is the combi boiler which due to the insane previous owner is located in an outside cupboard, so whenever the temp drops below freezing, the boiler is on PERMANENTLY! - so we really needed a new boiler anyway, this way we get rid of the standing charge for gas and as the boiler for the hot water is a new heat gel tech that can heat 200 litres of water (or go 10 days) without having to recharge, it WILL be cheaper than using a gas boiler! 😎

I was actually just posting the question to see if we were being diddled by SP, or are we just unlucky to be with the wrong company! 🤔

I'd regard anybody with Scottish Power as a supplier as unlucky,or unwise and would never recommend dealing with them if it can be avoided in any way.

Know very little about your proposed new boiler, sounds to me a little bit like it's the boiler equivalent of the oft-mentioned magic fairy dust/gel/whatever filled heaters though.
