Who is responsible for removing your gas meter?

We are leaving gas and going completely electric, but who is responsible and should it be free?
Scottish Power are being unhelpful and want us to pay an independent contractor to cap the gas, then PAY THEM £120 just to REMOVE the gas meter!
But limited research has shown that British gas, octopus, eon etc would do it ALL for free!.......
we had issues with their 'help dept' which we can just accept £50 compensation, or we can take it to ofgem, but where do we stand?

It will incur a cost to the supplier to remove a meter so why should they do it for free ?

As others will say - Why are your going all electric when gas is the much cheaper option ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1

It's coming out as cheap as our previous 3 bed link detached house with gas and electricity (2 years old) maybe due to standing charges on gas being £100 a year now?
The point where well designed ASHP heating on electricity vs gas prices appears to have reached its tipping point for some.

We'd like to know why they want to give up gas.Scooter42777 said:We are leaving gas and going completely electric, but who is responsible and should it be free?If you would rather switch supplier then ask your new supplier to do it, that's your perogative.I'm as curious as anyone as to how you plan to heat your he once you give up gas. Also, be aware there could be a further charge from your regional gas distributor when they come to dig up the supply pipe.N. @QrizB correct but this board must have a balanced view, gas is not always cheaper and that is not only my view but backed up with a real life example.
Please don't pull me up like this again it was perfectly reasonable for me to respond to give a balanced view to the OP for someone saying gas is cheaper (it isn't always)
I too was looking for their reason hence revisiting this post perhaps they can let us know in due course.2 -
Similar previous threads have seen people ripping our gas boilers and replacing them with electric boilers or old storage rads and fitting magic dust ones or have been very low users of gas and getting frightened by standing charges.

It can’t cost to stop using gas, just tell them you don’t want it anymore and leave the meter in situ. That way you can change your mind later.0
