No 4G Signal, why ?
Options
Long story short.
I get decent 4G signal everywhere, except at my families house a few miles down the road from me.
I am with EE. And the problem appears to be with my phone, and not the network ( as BT did the same thing )
If I go to the EE service checker online, enter my phone ( A21s ) and then their postcode, it says 4G is not available there. I am lucky to even get 2megabit which is terrible.
If I enter my old phones ( Huawei Y7 and iPhone 7 ) - they can get 4G there no problem.
So the question is, why exactly can I not get 4G at my families house down the road on my A21s ?

EE and BT both use the same network (EE) and I would treat the results of network checkers with a pinch of salt.
Where I live, the checkers say that Three has no indoor coverage and is the worst of the 4 providers. In practice it is as good as EE, better than O2 and Vodafone (which is supposed to be best) has little or no coverage. Yet I can walk 50 yards down the road and the coverage is completely different.2 -
Bear in mind it also depends on what frequency bands your phone supports as 4G can run on 800MHz, 1800MHz, 2100MHz and 2600MHz on EE. Also if your phone doesn’t support 4G Voice Calling (VoLTE), you won’t have access to 800MHz 4G. That’s why they ask what phone you have. So if your phone doesn’t support VoLTE and there is only 800MHz 4G in that area, you won’t connect to it.I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂1

Thanks. It is the phone then.
Top right of my screen does say VoLTE20 -
Radio propagation is not an exact science and there are many factors that affect the sort of service you get whether it be the sensitivity of the phone, the location of the base station relative to where you are standing, the number of obstructions between you and the base station, there are leaves on trees or even if its raining or not.
I get quite different data speeds depending on whether I stand in the lounge or the kitchen and I've no doubt it would be differnt if I went upstairs (but I cant coz i live in a bungalow)
And as said above it also depends on the frequencies or wireless bands that are in use a a location, lower frequency bands travel further and penetrate obstructions (even rain) better than higher frequency bands.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
If you go somewhere and you get no signal on your phone because it's not picking up the 4G, go into your phone's settings and select 3G as preferred network and boom you now have signal.
Worked for me on 3 at work when there was a problem with the local 4G cell which made my phone not pick up any signal at all until I turned 4G off.0
