Has anyone had a this problem any suggestions please? Purchased 4 tickets for a concert 14th April 22 in Alexander palace london. Euston was closed all over the easter weekend no trains from Liverpool so couldn't get there or back. Did live chat with the concert tickets supplier to let them know about this. they said as I had the tickets insured it covers travel delays I'll be covered I should claim. These cost150 quid. I am being asked to provide a pdf or similar showing my cancellation. I hadn't booked the train tickets we were going to get them on the day but as our journey was not able to go ahead we don't have cancellation proof just articles from the rail providers notifying of station closures. They don't seem to accept this and keep replying with send cancellation documents. Any suggestions please?

Honestly I can't see you getting anywhere with this - you'd not booked tickets so no 'cancellation' as such. It seems you chose not to travel because one of your travel options (that they've no idea whether you were going to take) wasn't available (and IIRC was well pre-advertised that it wouldn't be available)2

I believe the Euston closure (and the knock-on rail network effects) was publicised well in advance. Did you investigate any alternative means of travel?2

Not as easy as a direct service but you could still get to London ( extract below is from National Rail Enquiries)
Between Friday 15 April and Monday 18 April (inclusive), no trains will operate to / from London Euston. Avanti West Coast trains will terminate at Milton Keynes or Rugby, where connections into rail replacement services will be available. Rail replacement services will operate in both directions between:
- Milton Keynes Central – Bedford (connecting primarily into Thameslink services)
- Rugby – Kettering (connecting into East Midlands Railway services)
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1 -
The engineering works into Euston would have been advertised well in advance.
Booking tickets for trains is always cheaper, so you should have looked into it earlier anyway. Could have got the coach or something instead.
Your train wasn't cancelled, it was never scheduled to run.1 -
You could have taken national express direct from Liverpool0

We couldn't get the coach sur to mobility issues and the tickets were bought 18 months ago prior to any announcements but thank you anyway for your really helpful replies.1

It might be worth double checking the small print about how to make a claim, does it specify that you need to provide cancelled train tickets or such like?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I doubt you will get far with an insurance claim. Only one train route was cancelled so there were other possible rail options. It may well be treated as a 'disinclination to travel' i.e. you chose not to go.

As someone who lives on the Elizabeth line route I have had about 4 years of random closures so far, it was actually rare to get any service at all for months on end at weekends. It continues to be very frustrating as they tend to announce the closures for the following month at the end of the previous one, so planning trips was a very creative affair, using tubes, buses and whatever else we could find.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. It seems you were given poor advice via online chat - do you have screenshoot or transcript of your conversation? If you do - make a complaint to the ticket supplier about the bad advice you were given - including the proof that you were misled by their adviser and that the insurance did not cover the situation that you had explained to the advisor in the online chat . Include copies of the paperwork that shows you could not make a claim on the insurance. Request that in light of the circumstances- the ticket supplier refund for your tickets .1
