I recently had a CCJ put against my name by northumbrian water, i moved out of a property in june 2019 back to my parents house and cancelled my accout with NW.

I had went through a name change so when i cancelled the account it was in my old name, since i left NW created a new account in my new name with out my consent and have billed me for nearly 3 years of water rates.

When i questioned how this can be done they said they dont need my consent to charge me as the had an assumpion i still lived there, surely this is illegal.

Can any help and shed any light on this

Thank you in advance

Was the property that you moved from, rented or owned?

Do you know who occupied it after you left? Or was it left empty?

Did you give them a forwarding address?

Did you stop paying Council Tax, gas and electricity at the old address and were you still on voting register?

Obviously millions of people move out of a property and there isn't a problem. However when nobody takes over the account a water company can investigate and they presumably have reason to think you are still responsible for the account.

What paperwork from NW have you received since you moved out?.

I rented the property and i was re occupied shortly after in had moved out, i would say within 2 month.

There was no forwarding address but all other accounts i had were either cancelled or moved to my new address.

I stopped paying council tax and i am currently waiting on a duplicate final council tax being sent to me so i can prove this to NW.

I moved my electoral voting address and have since voted at my new address confirming this is correct.

I have received no paperwork from NW i can only assume any correspondence have gone to my previous address, the 1st thing i knew about this was when i received the CCJ

So you didn't receive the CC summons or any of the other paperwork concerning your court case, only the CCJ at the end of it? That's odd.

As i had moved out of the property nearly 3 year ago, i assume any correspondence went to the previous address
