snoozer said:Gers, I don't blame you for being confused, atm I feel as if my head is spinning. Laura is my daughter and Chris, my son. Brian and Crystal are the in-laws although we've known Crystal for 20 years since they were 16 so she is really like another daughter. Funnily enough she is also more like me in character than Laura is.Thanks - after I asked I remembered about Brian having relatives in Glasgow, I must be having a slow day!My day is very MSE, no spending at all. Camelot tried to tempt me via text!9

I have moved on from Working from Home, to Working from the Patio!
The sun is beaming down, blue skies everywhere, and the temperature is a rather refreshing 22C in the sun. Too good to be wasted indoors, so here I am on the patio, with parasol back up and my company laptop fully on and working.
Still not quite hot enough to what I am used to. When I was in my teens and living in SA, 35C was far more comfortable, but 22C will do for me even if it's still a little chilly.
There is a lot to be said for working from home. Yes there was that initial novelty come the lockdowns 2 years ago, but now I feel far more eager and invigorated to get my work done here rather than plodding the 15 miles to my place of work and all the aggro and expense that encompasses.
I still can't believe we're still in April. Feels more like a June or July. And yet only a week ago I was almost freezing my doo-dahs off in this exact same spot while reloading the bird feeders!
Time for a nice cold diet coke I think

Good afternoon, out early doors, back home and snaffled a sarnie and opened MSE OS to find 20 posts to read
Pleased to read that good holidays have been enjoyed and are being enjoyed and that several people with lurgies are now feeling a little better.
Nels I do hope that your DM gets moved today and that you enjoy your unplanned quiet day. My DM soon took on board that it would be impossible for her to leave hospital and return to her own home, just not physically/practically possible. My DSis was well up on the care homes in the area and we had a couple of weeks on tenterhooks waiting to see if they could take her at our preferred one (nursing home - so she was able to stay there for nearly 3 years right up to the end), The staff and management were amazing. She too had to be self financing as there is not funding for owner occupiers, and even though there were 5 of us we were not in a position to pay the fees.
Sending hugs and spoons to all, change into scruffs and off into the garden for a little light weeding (remember Sarah Kennedy on Radio 2 anyone?)The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)10 -
Nelsi, I didn't mean to make it sound like it was pointless. I know that saying one thing is the opposite doesn't mean miraculously, we will stop feeling guilty. When my dad died I felt [ and still feel] so guilty we didn't get him out of there and to his home. Logistically, it wasn't possible, he couldn't walk, he was severely dehyrated, he was delirious, not eating and in such pain and kept saying he wanted to go home. I know we couldn't have done anything intellectually speaking, Short of hauling him out of there like a sack of potatoes and putting him on the sofa, it wasn't possible. Still feel guilty, but I do know that there is no reason to feel guilty. I didn't intend to do the written equivalent of a buck up slap on the back...

Zolabuddy - wherever you live, I'm jealous! The sun keeps trying to shine here, but then the fog swirls around... It will probably be lovely at 7pm!
I've had a lovely reunion with little one as DD is working today - lots of lovely cuddles. She's having a nap now and then we have more sand to put in the sand pit and some new sand toys.
Told my boss I'll go back to work next week and she's said just to do afternoons to start with - so I won't argue.
Going to have a cuppa and a look at Sunday's paper as I forgot to cancel it.11 -
Sorry Nels I must have missed your post and I have only just got back on, you probably snuck in while I was typing mine. I hope your Mum can be moved and settled soon, then perhaps you can relax a bit too.
Take care lovely

Afternoon all. Bright and sunny here with a stiff breeze that's a bit on the chilly side, but at least it's dry.
The living room has had a thorough clean today and I've changed the curtains too. The ones I've taken down can wait to be washed, there's no hurry. Next on the hit list (not today though) is to give the sofa and armchairs a clean. They're cream leather and looking less than pristine. Once upon a time I'd do them all in one go but now it has to be done in stages. Still, at least I still can do them!
I've sent in this month's meter readings and happily usage has come down, so we're back to building up a credit again. I've turned the heating auto timer off now, if it gets a bit chilly we just pop it on manually for a short while.
For tea tonight we're having baked cod fillets and cauli cheese. For afters there's strawberries and a dollop of yogurt. I'd prefer cream but I'm being good. The bathroom scales are working again thanks to a new battery and joy, I haven't put any weight back on. Ideally, I'd like to shed another half a stone but it's proving incredibly stubborn to shift. Must try harder!
Sounds like a long drawn-out process, Ruby, but at least things are moving! Fingers crossed for a good outcome.
Lovely description of your morning views Gers and Zola. I think our birds were tweeting around 4 am but that’s a bit too early for a night owl like me!
Thanks, Coxy, for the info, that sounds as if it might work for DH. We shall give it a try.
My work situation was very much like yours, mehefin, thanks to an internal reorganisation. I also applied for and got early retirement. As you said, somewhat poorer but so much happier.
I’m pleased to hear you had a good time in Berlin, dp1. The break will have done you the world of good.
-taff, They say age is just a number and your art class chum proves the point! Watch out for that mint, it’s a real garden thug.
So disappointing for you, Nels. And your mum too. Drink and brewery spring to mind.
I know what you mean, nan, about maybe getting weaker. That’s why I have two vacuums, one downstairs and another upstairs. Some might think it’s an unnecessary extravagance but better that than struggling up and down the stairs and risking a fall. Can't do with us both hobbling around - we'd be squabbling over the walking stick!
I've got some dry laundry waiting to be folded and put away so I'm away to do that and then I'm done for the day. Hugs to anyone needing or wanting one. Take care all. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.11 -
Hi chums, beautiful day here in north Kent, had my spring booster covid jab this morning, so that's the fourth one and fingers crossed it will keep me healthy and virus free.
Spent the afternoon with feet up reading so a nice relaxing day.
DGS Mikey texted to say he'd had an email to say his passport was finally on its way at last .We ordered it at the begining of February so he's a happy lad as he is off to Cyprus with a gang of lads from school as one of them has a Grandpa who has a villa out there, and they are flying out in July.
He is doing his mock A levels at the moment amd is looking forward to his break with his pals after his finals in June.
DD and her OH are enjoying their break away with the dogs and the boys are being really good and Jack has been tidying up the house.
Eldest DD is off with her OH to NYC on Friday for their delayed holiday from earlier this month.
Sheppard's pie for dinner tonight, with some cauliflower cheese.
Hope everyone has had a good day and the sun has shone down on you all

Still Working from the Patio, as the sun is still shining, albeit a little lower in the sky. So much so I've had to lower the parasol to maximise the final rays of heat and light.
Enjoying some ice cream and grated Easter egg chocolate with a glass of white wine with the OH. Admittedly the flapping of drying clothes on the rotary airer a few meters to the left of us, but at least it will save a couple of quid on not using the TD.
Might have a game of Snakes & Ladders in a minute, or perhaps Ludo. Can't be done with the gogglebox or nasbox tonight.7
