Virgin cheap fibre deal about to end, what should I do?

Options
Hi

I got the £17 month virgin email for 100mbps fibre 17 months ago. I am now coming to the end of the contract and it will go up to £53 a month! Which is a massive increase. Is there anything I can do to get them to lower that? Threaten to leave them etc. Any tips on how to approach it?

Do any other companies use Virgin lines? I could also switch, but if its to Openreach lines, it could be a hassle. I have run the virgin cables around one room on the skirting, then up the wall and through a hole to mount above the stairwell! Will it be the same cables do you think? From the Router to the socket where the line comes in? If so then I guess they could just put a BT box right next to the virgin one

Any advice would be great
thanks

Virgin use their own network.  Nobody else can use it.

If you have a BT line you have more choice of provider (and you just pick somebody and they do all the work).

If you want to stay with Virgin look at the new customer deals, look at the new customer deals from other providers and phone Virgin up and say Provider X can do this that and the other for £Y a month but I'd rather stay with you, what can you do for me please.

Thanks and as for the internal cables I've run in my house....the one from the virgin socket to the router, will that cable be the same with a BT Openreach socket? If so then I don't mind switching also

If this is the cable where it comes in and screws onto the back of the Virgin router (which looks similar to the cables from a satellite dish - ie with the pin sticking out the middle) then that's not reusable.

If you've run network/Ethernet cable around the place then that's not a problem.
  • Just ring them up , they won't match your current deal but they have always given me a decent price at renewal.
Mine was recently going to jump in price and when I rang up they gave me 213mbps for £29/month so I would have though you could be offered 100mbps for around £25/month.
As already said , if you want fibre from elsewhere that uses the BT/openreach network  you won't be able to use your current cabling .

Ok thats a shame, so Openreach uses a different cable from the socket to the router. I'll see what discount I can get out of virgin tomorrow, their systems were down today

    thanks

See what Virgin quote you.  If you not happy with that price, tell them I can get it for x with y and ask to put in a cancellation. You will then get a better offer. If still not happy with that go ahead with cancellation and wait for a call back from them with even cheaper offer. Make sure your marketing preferences are set in your Virgin Media account so that they can contact you
