Have you checked that the recipient will accept edited pdfs for verification purposes?
A very good point - If you start editing/redacting information then how do they know the documentation you are providing is a true and accurate record?

I am currently involved in sorting someones affairs with several bank accounts and other financial documentation. It would be very easy to scan and edit (Not that I am going to do so) to make them read different and nobody would be any wiser. If they suspect that the documents have been edited to deceive then it could create problems.
As Emmia says  **I'd also be surprised if the organisation
cares two hoots about what the OP is spending their money on.**

Well, that depends what the whole thing is about... if its in relation to lending then actually the organisation will likely care if there is a notable number of payments in relation to gambling etc.

The poor grunt that looks at the statement to validate (assuming its not done by AI) won't care and will probably have to look at several per minute so wont be looking through for any salacious orders from LoveHoney, dating website, !!!!!! sites etc.

If they care about the spending, then they'll want an unredacted statement... and potentially a hard copy that has been posted to the OP and not a pdf download.

OP what (general purpose) is the statement needed for?

Agree, I have had PDF statements sent for verification refused and only original statements received from the bank accepted in the past.

Here goes, I have on-line banking, I have to produce a bank statement for verification purposes showing last 3 months at address.

Name / address, date, no problem, thing is, I'd rather not show all my personal transactions over that period, after all, it's personal

Is there anyway round it (I've not downloaded the statement yet)
Most bank statement PDFs are locked, you will be unable to edit them even with the correct software.

Ultimately the recipient is bound by data protection requirements and they will not care what the transactions are for, unless they specifically need transaction details as part of the application (security clearance, working in certain financial roles etc.).

PDFs are PDFs and they cannot be made uneditable, it can be made hard by it being flattened as an image (making a large file) that still doesnt ultimately stop anyone from editing but means more effort to work out which font was used etc.

They can be password protected for editing which many bank statements are. That does not mean one could not recreate one that looked no different to a real one, I could probably create one in Illustrator in 15-20 minutes, but that would still not make the original editable.

not my area of expertise but i would think sending an edited pdf for verification purposes claiming it was an original pdf would be classified as fraud.

Not worth the effort, just send it off warts and all.

I've shared my bank statements dozens of times for various reasons, I couldn't care less. If you think you have something more personal / embarrassing than me then you might be wrong, I do a lot of transfers of money between me and my (adult) kids and other family and for a laugh I put silly things in the payment reference - mostly too close to the bone to quote on here, use your imagination.

At one point I did matched betting and had literally hundreds of transactions to/from bookies - enough to look like I had a gambling problem despite me profiting from it all, but it never even raised an eyebrow.

The last time I did it for a finance application it was even more modern, they used the open banking platform so I basically granted access to my bank transactions directly - you will see more of this in the future anyway and there will be no way to redact that.

My brother arranges days out for him and his mates, and books the train tickets. His mates pay him by bank transfer ... and some can be quite "inventive" with how they describe their transfers. Not sure my brother would want to share bank statements showing such transactions. ;)
