It certainly seems more likely they're low voltage, but mains voltage G4 bulbs do exist. See e.g. https://www.thelightbulb.co.uk/led/capsules/g4-led-capsule-240volt/
    They are not dimmable
I'm aware! My post was in response to others saying that ALL G4 bulbs were low voltage, to illustrate that there's at least a slim chance yours may not be.

Are you able to tell us whether you need 12V or 240V bulbs, please?
    No I’m not!
im sorry I don’t really understand the question.
I’ve ordered some Philips low watt ones (1.2).  I expect they’ll work, even if the dimmer part doesn’t?

D'oh, of course. If these ARE G4 bulbs, then they WILL have a transformer. So that needs checking before anything else.
The TRANNIE needs to be dimmable and suitable for an LED's lighter load. And the bulbs ditto.
Yes the block thing in the lead has a dimmer.  Hence I want dimmable bulbs!

Just when you think you are getting somewhere, I'll throw you another curveball :-) Having just bought G4 LEDs very recently - tho' not dimmable types - I had a choice of AC or DC.
Could you tell us, please - the 'secondary' (output) voltage of the transformer, and whether it's AC or DC?
It’s got an ordinary plug on it.  The dimmer is an on and off block thing in the middle of the electric lead.

They'll take around 2 weeks to arrive. Or you'll likely find similar on eBay.
Rated at 6W (seems a bit high since ~30W equiv), but that shouldn't matter in your case since they'll be dimmed, and only become warm even if full on. Choice or warm or cold.

Thanks, I’d already got some Philips 1.2w ones.  I assume they won’t be too bright?
There are 5 in a line, in a light fitting to look like lit candles.

Ah, so not a hard-wired setup.
Could you post a photo of the dimmer module, also showing any info on the underside?

The existing halogen bulbs will almost certainly have the voltage and wattage printed on it in teeeeny print.

When the LED bulbs turn up, if they don't work first time, turn them thro'  180 degrees! LED bulbs have polarity. Tungsten ones don't.

What 1.2 W Philips lamps ?? (Link to them / where you bought them or a picture of the labelling).  The dimmable ones I found were 2.1 Watts.

    Pictures please:
    of this luminaire (light fitting),
switch-dimmer thingy (front and back to read any labels/moulded lettering),
any other (printed) labels on it and also
the original g4 lamps (for any printed markings legible).

Or a link to the luminaire if still on sale anywhere.

You don't want to be fitting 12V leds to a mains dimmed luminaire.  They likely fail immediately possibly dangerously.

12V and 10W. Any 12V G4 LED should do, provided you determine whether that output is AC or DC. For that we need an equally good pic of the label on that dimmer control.
