@Vanlady I use https://emojipedia.org for emoji's 👍 and then just copy and paste.
I'd try adding some spice to your cauliflower cheese soup to add a bit of flavour when you reheat the ones you've got in the freezer, a pinch of chilli or some curry powder to work wonders for bland soup!

Made game pie for dinner (pie filling was made a couple of days ago, some frozen and some left in the fridge). I used up the tub in the fridge today. We had this with broccoli and chantenay carrots from the Lidl veg box that I managed to get on Wednesday when I went shopping. While I had the oven on, I made a blackberry and apple crumble (fruit also from the Lidl box), and a smaller rhubarb one, using rhubarb from the garden. There is half of the game pie left for another meal, and only small spoonsful taken from the crumble, so loads of that left for future meals too.

Oh my goodness, I am now almost £120 over, after doing this week's market & supermarket shop. Not happy! I was taken aback today; I needed kitchen roll, which normally only gets bought about twice a year, as we use rags for most things. The pack that used to cost £2.60 was £4.50... jaw-dropping! I remarked (pleasantly!) about it to the cashier; she sighed and said, "for most things, we know there are supply-chain difficulties or genuine shortages. But no-one's mentioned any kind of paper shortage. Just - everything's going up."
Thinking about it, there's always a bit of a blip at this time of year - hungry gap/new season prices. Then they normally fall back a bit (rarely right back!) but this year prices have galloped up & show no signs of falling back. I need to re-assess...Angie - GC Aug25: £374.16/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)5 -
@PipneyJane, have you got any apples? You could try replacing an egg with some stewed apple, in the cakes. Works ok.
Have done an inventory of kitchen freezer today, and barn freezer. Just need to inventory the hall freezer tomorrow. All three are stuffed!

ancientmum said:Well I made some bread, but it did not turn out well, although I have kept it to have with soup. Didn't check before baking, but the yeast is out of date, so that will have to go. Does anyone know if I can put in the compost heap?
The current grocery spend is £371.14/370 for the year so far.
Son and girlfriend are coming to Sunday lunch so I did some creative accounting and bought ice cream and tonic water from the treats fund. We can have the tonic water on its own or with some sloe gin that I made last year. I'm so looking forward to seeing them.mumtoomany said:Morning all. Congratulations @MissRikkiC and family on the birth if your new son.
We did a big shop on Wednesday, as OH was at the dentist. Also picked up some yellow sticker pork steaks yesterday and DD3 brought in some passata and more milk last night. Total for all these is, £136.56. New total for the year is, £1153.73/£2640. More than it should be for the five month mark. Will try and see if i can bring it back under control next month. Of vegetables starting to grow now, which will help. I also have a lot of stuff in the freezers and the pantry, might try to reduce that a little. Hugs to all, mumtoomany.xxx

Another +1 hoping elsiepac is OK.
Whilst I'm not the most technically able person, I realise that the GC thread has grown in participation numbers recently, partly through promotion, partly through what is going on in the world. If another pair of hands is needed to help - either throughout the month, or at 'start-up' for each monthly challenge, then I'm willing to try my best and pitch in. Just let me know what needs to be done (and how........😉)

Also wondering if all is well with @elsiepac as I'd noticed that the June thread wasn't up yet. Perhaps we could simply continue using the May thread if it's too difficult to put up a new one.
I really popped over here to say that I spotted this podcast about10 things you need to know about pressure cooking
in an email from Olive magazine. I haven't listened to it myself but thought that it could be useful to others. If it turns out to be hopeless do say and I'll remove the link.2
