Curry’s TV repair/refund

Hi all,
In late November 2021 I purchased a 50 inch Phillips Ambilight TV. Fantastic TV and no complaints other than some shadows that started to develop on lighter colours. I understand the CRA process of repair > no repair leads to replace/refund etc so phoned up to organise repair with Curry’s under warranty which was relatively painless except having no time slot available to me so having to make sure somebody was in for them to collect it.

They updated the tracking to say it had arrived with them. But needed contact from me, I contacted them and they asked if they could return the TV the following Wednesday from when they picked it up, no problem except the usual no time slot issue. I checked the tracking again yesterday to find they needed contact from me again! Couldn’t be doing with the hassle of calling again so emailed them, they now say the TV has been written off so I will be getting an email voucher to purchase a new one…
The model I have is no longer available with curry’s and has been replaced with an equivalent new 2022 model which is £100 more than I paid for mine.
Should I be asking curry’s to cover this, or sucking it up?

The option to repair, replace or refund lies with Currys. As they can't repair or replace the only option is to refund the price you paid for the TV. They don't have to put you into a better position than you were at the time of purchase.

As the TV is under 6 months old and the retailer has written of the set, you are entitled to full refund, no cost replacement or repair
Since they can't replace or repair your entitled to a refund by whatever means you paid for the TV

Either ask them to cover the full cost or ask for a full refund then you can buy elsewhere.1

Which model Philips TV is it?
Guessing the Philips 9006, 8506 or 7906 would be the ranges you are looking at as they are the ambilight LED models with 50" sizes.1 -
Currys won't want to give you a refund only a Currys voucher

After 6 months they can reduce the refund if customer insisting on refund by original payment but may offer a full refund in vouchers1 -
Thanks everyone.A old saying goes “if you don’t ask, you don’t get” - I asked curry’s today if they would be willing to pay towards the equivalent new replacement for the TV and they agreed on £50 towards the cost which I think is very fair, curry’s weren’t to know the TV would fail and they gave very good service when I purchased it, the time slot bother can’t be avoided I suppose but this let them down on after-service. I’m sure the extra £50 was partly toward my disappointment.I will be heading down there tomorrow to purchase the 2022 model of the TV that failed, hopefully it lasts a bit longer!2
