Asda leg of lamb

Options
Anyone buy a leg of lamb for Easter? I bought mine last week put it straight in the freezer, took it out Saturday to defrost, when I opened it there was an awful smell, so I washed it think it was just the blood, when cooked it tasted rotten. We had 8 of us for dinner and it was ruined we couldn’t eat it! The worst thing is I can still smell it today even though I’ve bleached everything and the meat is double bagged in the wheelie bin outside.

To answer your question, no, I didn't buy a leg of lamb for Easter.  I'm sure some people did although I'm not really sure how it will help you to know that.

    Was there any other question?.

    These things happen sometimes.

Hopefully none of you are ill from it.
You may be able to get a refund from Asda if you take the joint back to them but is it really worth the bother?
There won't be anything for loss of enjoyment (spoiled Easter lunch) unless Asda give you a token voucher as goodwill gesture.

My wife and I had a similar thing with a bad chicken a month or so ago and both had two days off work so lost money.  Not something we considered trying to get anything for.

Yes I did, the first one I’ve bought from a supermarket for ages after having a funny smelling one from Tesco back at the beginning of lockdown. I bought mine fresh and cooked it Friday and it was delicious, had it cold yesterday with mash and veg. I actually went back today to see if they had any left, and they were completely sold out.

    No, I don't like lamb.

    Are you doing a survey?

Another who does not like lamb.

As a consumer question:    Yes, take it back to the store and complain.

I'd be taking it back and ask for a refund.  Being polite about it and saying "oh dear and we were so looking forward to it" should get you a refund at the minimum and maybe something extra too.

We ordered one from Sainsbury's with our online shop but only got a 1/2 leg so bought a whole leg from Asda, £6.50 a kilo, a week before Easter, froze it and then defrosted for cooking today.  No problem with it and fed 9 with some left overs.

I just had my Ocado delivery tonight - and there was a pot of fresh cream with a best before date of the 25th of April - I poured it onto my dessert - and on first taste it was off. I hadn't bothered giving it the sniff test as it had only just been delivered and was well in date. On sniffing it was obviously off though. Ruined the dessert - but it happens. Put in a claim for a refund on both the cream and the dessert, as one spoiled the other - and in a few days I'm sure it'll process and hit back into my account. These things happen. If you bought it online, go through your online account and request a refund. If you bought it in-store - go back with your receipt and explain what happened - I'm sure they wouldn't expect you to bring the offending article back if it wasn't smelling its best. (Or write to their customer services if you prefer).
