Because as long as there is a meter and a supply then the daily standing charge would apply and someone would be liable to pay it. That someone is the OP as they are responsible for the property and its energy supplies.slipthru said:
Ok, what i mean is tell them your moving and when you get back sign up with them again.MWT said:
You can't just terminate the contract without terminating the physical supply and removing the meter...slipthru said:Why not tell them you want to end your contract when you leave and when you come back set up a new contract. Better than disconnection.
You can terminate by switching to another supplier of course, but that doesn't help...
The energy company would likely take steps to chase that debt. And if it was MickyLuv paying bills before the gap, then a new account was set up by MickyLuv it wouldn't be too hard to join the dots.0 -
Empty properties still have energy accounts with whoever owns the property, so someone can't just leave but rather the account needs to be transferred to someone else.slipthru said:

The supplier has a legal right to expect someone to pay for the energy connection to a property.slipthru said:

You can terminate by switching to another supplier of course, but that doesn't help...Yes, it is possible to tell the supplier that you are moving out and then get a Final Bill as suppliers take this on trust. However, when the ‘new occupant’ fails to contact the supplier, the supplier will start sending out estimated bills addressed to ‘The Occupier’ and it will expect to get paid. The minute that the OP calls to ‘sign up’ again, the supplier will no doubt want to see legal paperwork demonstrating that the OP was not responsible for the property during the ‘gap’ period. If this cannot be produced then, at best, the OP would be billed or, at worst, charged with attempted fraud.1
