n3rgy vs Glowmarkt API (Bright app/Hildebrand): different tariffs/unit rates

So glad I don't have smart meters and don't have to grapple with all their related problems...1

No, it's not easily explained by a 30 min time difference.[Deleted User] said:
I think that you will find is easily explained by the fact that Bright records 30 minute usage from the start of the period, and suppliers time stamp the data 30 minutes later. This has been discussed many times in other fora. Hildebrand’s response has been that their App has been around since the early days of smart metering. It is maintained by staff who have other paid work to do, so keeping Bright fully updated is not seen as a high priority. Many of us for example would like to see solar exports included in the App. I have for the last couple of years suggested to Hildebrand that they should charge for the App to fund future development.sebtomato said:I have now done my own measurements, looking at when the off peak circuit comes live during the night (contactor), and it's indeed live from 23:35 and 01:35, and 03:35 to 08:35.
Therefore, both the Bright app and Glowmarket API are probably wrong, when it comes to off peak time and therefore cost.
They both think that off peak runs from 23:30 to 08:30 without any peak time break. The n3rgy data is correct, in term of rates applicable per 30 min slot.
As for how I measured it, I had to make my own circuit using an ESP32 microcontroller, and hack a contactless current checker "pen" (basically powering it on periodically and checking the LED voltage).
The circuit is checking every 5 minutes whether there is current in the off peak wire connected to the hot water tank.
Bright believes I am on an off peak tariff from 23:30 to 08:30, without gap, or 9 hours per night.
N3rgy and EDF believe that I am on an off peak tariff from 23:30 to 01:30 and then 03:30 to 08:30, so 7 hours per night.
I agree that the Bright app is free and API is free too, but if data provided is not correct and not the data collected by the meter, then becomes a bit pointless.0 -

N3rgy...Brighty and n3rgy both think I'm on a single rate tariff, when I'm on a dual-rate one. It's irrelevant to my billing and makes no difference to me. I'm not sure why you're getting quite so fixated on it.N. Hampshire, he/him. Octopus Intelligent Go elec & Tracker gas / Vodafone BB / iD mobile. I am on a dual rate tariff (e7): n3rgy applies the correct rates at the correct times, Bright doesn't apply the correct rates at the correct times. It's just FYI in case people rely on Bright or glowmarkt API data to check their cost, which I am sure people do, else why have the app?QrizB said:sebtomato said:Bright believes I am on an off peak tariff from 23:30 to 08:30, without gap, or 9 hours per night.

At the end of the day, I have 3 sources of data (including EDF's own site) and none agree on consumption, rates or cost. Absolutely amazing, when all that data is supposed to be fed automatically from a single source...
If I was convinced bills from EDF would be correct, I wouldn't be fixated on finding a way to check them.
