Ebay asking for passport details/restricting account

Hi
WTH!!! I has to read the title three times before clicking on it.
I think my account is over 20 years old and never heard anything like it.
I rarely sell and on average less than one item a year and always stuff like our old tv/laptops. sofas, tables, wall art and a private reg but never asked for anything like this.
If I had a message.email like that, I'd either ignore it or call ebay on a phone nuber that I looked up myself.
Good luck, OP

They tend to ask for ID based on how much you sell so one item a year wouldn't get their interest. I think other factors can also trigger ID requests including use of VPNs, which might be associated with users who have previously been banned.
