Ebay asking for passport details/restricting account

Options
Ebay has asked for my passport details and now I haven't sent them, has stopped me using my account. I have been a buyer and seller for years and for no reason I can see it has now asked for my passport which I really do not want to give - it already has my bank details and address, DOB etc. The reason it say sis to prevent fraud. Has anyone else had this and is there any way round it. Is it legal?

Lots of people have been asked to provide information. Your choice on whether to comply or not but if you want to sell stuff then
it maybe in your best interest.

Your choice. Ebay aren't going to change their proceedures just for you.
  • It's not just a passport is it? They just want photo ID, so a driving licence should suffice.

Is it just any photo ID?
  • I think just passport or drivers licence.

What does the email asking for ID say?

    I'm interested as well.
I have a UK bank a/c that's linked to my ebay a/c and I provided my passport ID to my bank in order to open an a/c. So far, ebay has let me continue buying and selling, with ebay processing money to my bank a/c.
Now and then I get a reminder to update my ebay a/c information.

I keep getting those messages to update my account. Smae name same address what is there to update?

Halifax account kept popping up stating they legally needed to know my status,  no you want my info to send
me more adverts which I do not want.

What happened to the days when you could phone the Halifax at 2am and talk to one of their tech guys
about fake banking sites being posted around the internet. Someone had received a suspicious Egg URL and
I tried all the other banks and found a few which were ready to come live when the Egg one got shut down.
