A smart meter is not an accurate way to rate one appliance.
They're accurate to around the 1 W level I'd have thought...

They are not an accurate way of testing a single appliance because it's not known what else in the house is on.
Firstly you can control what else is on if you really want to for accurate measurements (and I have), but here we're talking about 2.4 kW! Yes the OP needs to be sure there isn't some high power item switching on and off at the times they're comparing but this isn't really an 'accuracy' issue.

Are you sure its not the immersion heater.
Where would someone with a gas combi boiler have an immersion heater?

Probably not then, Has the ever been a combi model with a small electric tank rather than gas heated? The could be an electric towel radiator or anything on the same circuit.
Or a under the sink tank in a granny flat?

Yes you can ensure everything in your house is turned off to test the boiler but I have seen far too many reports of smart meters giving wild results like this, so I wouldn't consider them accurate. This doesn't mean the meter is inaccurate in its prime function of measuring the gas used.
There is no way that this boiler is using 2.4 KW and electricity consumption would not be picked up during a service.
OP ensure everything in you house is switched off and try your tests again and see if you get this electricity usage each time the boiler runs.

This is what I would do

Go round and switch everything off except the fridge freezer then go to your smart meter and look at your usage for electricity  now (hopefully between 50-200w)

Leave it for 15 mins check its stable.

Put your heating on and monitor seeing what it pulls on electricity and take some pics.

Double check your backup emersion switch isn't turned on.
  • Just looked at WB website for some of their mid range combi boilers.

Auxiliary electrical consumption at full load 0.058 kW

As a backup for when the boiler fails? And a lot of people used to use an immersion in the summer when the central heating was off, in the era when the CH and DHW systems could not be run independently.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

The issue would be why there is still a hot water tank to put the immersion heater in though?

My question was WHERE given there wouldn't be a water tank for it to be in I'd have thought?

I'd certainly hope so but a fault may well have occurred since the last service.
