Hi
I'm on a fixed term home energy December 2023 tariff with British gas.  Just checked the app and in credit by £774.24 electricity and £266.21 gas. Am I able to get this money refunded or ask for a direct debit reduction given how much in credit I am?
Thanks for any help
Pam

Hi pochase,  I pay by direct debit. Monthly repayment jumped at the switch to the fixed tariff last year.

You may pay a monthly direct debit, but when was your last bill?

Did you receive a bill or do you just see the credit building up from the money you pay by debit order?

How much do you pay per month and how much energy do you use?

The thing we are trying to work out is if that balance figure includes all your recent consumption, or if perhaps there is a new bill due to arrive shortly which will reduce that balance before your next monthly payment is due...

@PJ78D   Some online accounts which only bill every 6 months can be misleading. The balance shown is the credit/debit from your last bill plus the DD's since then. They may not include the cost of your energy !

Do you keep your own spreadsheet ?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

    Hi everyone
I don't keep my own spreadsheet and haven't a clue re last bill as don't get a paper one. I did a Meyer reading from the smart meter as it had gone off and sent these figures to British gas
Gas reading as of 3pm today 5819.8
    Electricity at 3.11pm 025746.8
I'm paying £239.36 electricity and £48.19 gas monthly

Go look at your account online, you will be able to see the most recent bill there, check if that bill has used the manual readings you have provided.
If it has then your balance does seem to be high and you should ask for at least part of it back.
If you do not have a recent bill yet that has used the readings you have provided then wait until you do, so you can be sure that you have paid for all your recent consumption.

You should get any excess back after your bi annual review. I just got a £500 refund back from EDF without asking shortly after my latest 6 monthly bill.
