Bought an Indesit back in May 2007 - only once had a problem with a circuit board faulty. Our local engineer came and sorted it out £50.00 and the machine is used 4/5 times a week.

Think it cost me around £200. As long as my wife is happy with it then no plans to replace it.

In desperate need of washing machine. I normally research like mad before a big purchase but just dont have much time on this so thought I would ask on here.

If you have just bought a 1600 spin speed , A or B energy rated , relatively inexpensive machine (below £450) and think it's very good, could you tell me the model and where you got the best price please? (I can plumb it in myself and get rid of the old one, but would need delivery)

    Thanks for help

Your 1600 spin speed is restricting choices a lot. Do you really need that?
We just bought a Samsung 8Kg 1400 spin speed B rated machine from John Lewis for less than £400 delivered (and old one taken away). It has a 5 year warranty once registered and seems fine - apart from the user manual, which is fairly poor, but we figured out the important stuff like how to wash clothes in it! :)
Well, it's not a deal breaker but find in the past that 1600 gave came out a little bit dryer and therefore if we had to do dry it indoors it was quicker/easier.

I would look at JL as always find the after care very good on other tings we had, and 5 years is a great period of no stress.

I'll have a look now for that, what model number was it please?

EDIT - Just had a look but the 5 years warranty on a Samsung is an extra £100?

I see you've sorted it now, but if anyone else is interested, the one we bought was this. It was £439 (free delivery) less £50 for trading in your old machine. To do that we had to pay the £20 recycling fee, but the discount then became £70. All in, it cost us £389 and got rid of the old one. They are heavy, so I was glad the two-man delivery took the old one away, unpacked the new one and placed it close to where it had to go, so all I had to do was connect it up.
I see the "trade in" offer has gone now, but the price has dropped to £429.
The additional 3 years onto the two year standard warranty is free when you register the machine with Samsung.

The Beko model I got was just out of date (older model being phased out) and as such was reduced to £278 from £349.  (C rated for energy)

I could have paid to have the old one taken away, but am taking the motor out to make a belt sander. I know the motor on the old one very well, and formed a close bond with it having changed the brushes on it twice in the last 12 years, so I will be delighted to recycle it and reuse it, and maybe even the display screen if I can work out what it could be used for in conjunction with a Raspberry Pi maybe?

    Respect.
  • A good drum design is more important than spin speed.

If interested in white goods specs you need to look behind the ABC and look at the delegated regulations that define what goes on the label.

Spin efficiency measures the amount of residual moisture.

Important for the next step drying.

This may not be the latest

The other issue is the energy rating is based on a specific set of loads that many people don't use for a lot of their regular washes.

I saw the % residual water remaining on the spec today. Most were 53% but good ones were 44% I think, I didn't see anything lower than that

Mine is the cheapest one on AO. Had it 2 years and still going strong. Not many days it is not in use and TBO, it’s the most solid machine we have had.

D rated and only 1000 spin so doesn’t meet your requirements through.
