Is there any recommendation's when choosing DSLR Camera.
I intend to use indoors  shooting some soon to be made home improvements.
Maybe before and after photo's to compare and possibly create short Final Cut Pro movie.
What features should I consider and finally how does a budget Camera for a few hundred pounds hold advantage over iphone Camera's (12 Mini)

thanks

Make a list of your requirements as "essential" or "desirable", then start looking at what meets your needs.
    Things like:
Must record video at minimum resolution of....
Must operate in low light with minimal loss of resolution.
Should have good white balance options.
What features do  you require for stills? Do you want long exposure times?
What sort of battery life do you want?
How much is an extra battery?
What storage devices will it take?
    Do you need remote control?
Do you need a built-in flash?
Do you want manual, semi-automatic and fully automatic modes?

Did this several years back and found dpreview.com a useful source of information.
In my experience, there is quite a learning curve in getting familiar with the controls once you stray away from the smartphone style automatic cameras, and it's a case of taking a few steps back before any forward progress is made. Only then do you appreciate the control you have in creating your images.
I went for a bridge camera, used it a fair bit then realised the benefits of a smartphone with good camera for my requirements. Never got into serious photography, but have friends who will spend many (many) hundreds on photography equipment and choose holidays based on the photographic attractions!

Reading a suggested book via Kindle
How to choosea Camera, lens and tripod.
    Tony Northup
    Seems excellent from beginner's &more
24mega pixels seems decent start, maybe Cannon or Sony possibly Nikon.
thanks for those detailed considerations, a few of low or mid hundreds budget don't seem to offer anything Auto as they only mention manual modes?
I'll need to consider very low light in flat-does a decent Flash overcome this.
iphone can be very good to dreadfully dark when shooting indoors, have done well with EV photos outside home.

    thanks

Don't set your mind on DSLR, look into Mirrorless cameras, all the advantages, changeable lenses etc but samller & lighter

They are also better suited to movies and lots of other features, including in body stabilisation [IBIS]

Don't fixate on pixels either, most modern smaller format cameras are perfectly suitable for photogarphy, unless you are wanting poster hording size blow ups

Check out used bodies from repurtable dealers, like MBP, WEX, London camera exchange etc

And use You tube for a bit of research before you settle on your camera

If it is just for shooting before and after pics of home improvements then use your phone. Also, DSLR is beginning to die, mirrorless is the way to go now even at the pro level, Canon have started making L lenses for their Mirrorless range.

Unless you know what you are doing, or plan to invest a lot of time in learning then use the basic tools on your phone or pre-installed on your computer, rather than moving to more advanced software.

An inexpensive camera to start and have a play. No good spending lots of money and finding you made a mistake.

Once satisfied then you can spend a lot of money.

Maybe Iphone 12 mini is lacking one or more features if compared to 13/13 Pro.
I have viewed excellent youtube video- claiming mobile Camera's are indeed good enough.

Not sure what to choose, maybe 13 Pro upgrade, not before using 12 Mini Camera during April.
I'll enjoy EV return tomorrow after wing accident, and run photos through editing suite.

    thanks mser's

Decided to allow time for iphone14 to arrive.
Only disappointment is there's a better Lens not going to make it until iphone15.
Thanks for DSLR info, maybe best avoided for my beginner needs.

    thanks

Speak to staff in somewhere like Camera Exchange.  They are mostly staffed by photography enthusiasts rather than people with a general sales background and sometimes limited specific knowledge.

I cannot find any Camera Exchange in Scotland.
Meanwhile I've took some shots of recently repaired EV.
I've lots to learn, though iphone12mini Camera is decent practice for software apps.

    thanks
