Perfectly normal. Surely you should have known that your pension pot is invested in market therefore will change every day. Bigger amount you got, the bigger the value it will change in value term.

Not all pots are invested the same way, so there will be some significant variations . However there has been a slide in January and then again after the Ukraine war started and recently some recovery . On the other hand you should have see your pot grow significantly over the last few years .

Hopefully you were impressed by their in depth analysis of the current situation

are you not drawing down / receiving any pension income at the moment? If so then you are missing the opportunity to get £12k a year out at 0% tax (plus 25% tax free)

Any reason your adviser didn't explain the various events that have caused the negative period?

Every time period is interesting as there is always something negative going on to counter the positives.   Each time they are different.

A drop from £542k to £501k is very small and drops of that scale will happen quite often.  You need to be prepared for much larger to follow as this is small compared to what WILL happen.

Time to buckle up for the ride that lies ahead in my personal opinion. All those years of making easy money are drawing to a close.

Don't forget you can have upto £6,000 in interest taxed at 0% so that may not be a factor in utilising your Personal Allowance.

Interest is taxed after earnings, pension income and rental income so you could have say £15k in pension and rental profit and the first £3,570 of your interest would get "taxed" but at 0%.

"lifestyle" strategies are often structured to move towards less volatility as pension age approaches.  Maybe the OP needs to consider risk appetite if the recent fluctuations cause concern
  • My pension was £330k at the end of December.
It fell to £290k at the end of Feb and is now back up to £310k

I transferred my 3 workplace pots from previous employers to a 'wealth management' company last November, choosing a 'medium risk' plan. What was approx £460k is now hovering around £400k. Correction - just checked, today it's down to £395k (it has been lower). Lol.

Yes, I know I'm lucky to have that amount of money sitting somewhere, and I do have 10 years until my official retirement date. Still a bit worrying though.
