How long for car hire company to pursue damage?

I was in the States in December, and someone dinged my hire car whilst it was in a car park. The dent was quite small, about 10cm across and the paint was scraped back to metal.
I reported the damage and after I returned the car, I received a damage report.
I told my excess insurer, who has opened a claim.
I've heard nothing further from the car hire company (budget). Four months on, can I assume budget aren't going to ask me to pay?

last time I had an issue with car hire in US it was about 9-10 months before they sent a bill (in my case the damage was on the vehicle when it was collected and was reported but vehicle was returned to a different airport...when I received the bill, I sent them the evidence of it having been there on collection and never heard from them again)1

Did you not have the full Crash Damage Waiver with the policy?0

I didn't take budget's policy, but following the advice on here, got a separate policy. So I am covered, I just wondered how long budget might take to send a bill (if they're going to - when I returned the car, the woman said they might not pursue it as it's small).
The insurers keep chasing me, but obvs I haven't heard anything from budget. I wondered if anyone here had had similar experiences, and from the poster above, it seems it can take a while for them to get sorted so t doesn't sound as if I'm out of the woods yet!0
