I never usually complain, but I'm getting too much having to deal with these cowboys. Trustpilot 97% 1 star says it all.

I can't tell you how SICK i am of having to contact them, i hate hate hate this company. Myself and my partner have not been able to use the heating in working hours all winter due to the uncertainty and mental anguish they have caused.

My gas meter has not worked in SEVEN, that's right 7 months, and I've told them at least 10 times. Live chat, email, phone etc. I was ONCE given a meter appointment date, then they cancelled it the very next day, no reason given.

Its gone to complaints, and then i got a complaint handler, he then stopped ringing me despite promising to do so, just like everybody else. I asked last week and twice this week why he has stopped calling him and to get him to call me back, but yet nothing, what a surprise.

Can you literally do anything? Like genuinely anything? I've written to the Ombudsman and i'm really hoping they rule against them, as it's not on how much contempt they treat people with.

Have you really stopped heating with gas? What are you going to do if they estimate your use from last year?

Did you heat with electricity instead, so you have higher use there?

How did you follow up with the ombudsman and when was that? Any reaction there?

    @pochase

We didn't use any heating from Sept - Feb until 6pm all weekdays. Decided in Feb it made no difference whether we did or didn't at this point. They told us if they can't get any data (no idea how they'd be able too) then they won't charge us anything as they can't estimate it.

But saying that, they're so so so so poor I don't believe anything they say.

I think the Ombudsman case will be settled in 4 weeks or so. I do know, Scottish Power have submitted no evidence from their side, and I literally can't see how they would stand a chance.

How do you have your heating after 6pm but not before?

Just as we weren't manually putting it on to try to keep costs down. Stopped worrying when it was evident they're not going to fix it.

Sorry, I’m a bit confused with this. How has your gas meter not worked for 7 months when it clearly is due to you putting your heating on after 6pm. What makes you think it’s not working?

Surely if your meter isn't working you can have the heating on all the time as the meter isn't recording any of your use? It's then down to SP to fix it so they can bill you.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

Sorry if I was being confusing. We get Gas to the house fine, but the credit meter has been stuck on 203 since Sept. it wont go up. I totally agree that it's down to SP. I've been trying to help them to no avail.

It's a bit late now but as others have said it makes little sense to limit gas use when none is being registered as being used. Should you want to use more before the weather properly warms up, I would, and not worry about it.

As for getting this resolved you'll just have to wait for the ombudsman to address this now by the sound of it.

I concur with others. Take a photo of your "stuck" meter reading as proof, and SP already know you've contacted them several times to resolve the issue. Plus you have notified the Ombudsman. So you have covered all bases.
Turn on your gas when you need it . They can't bill you if the meter isn't working and they are responsible for its maintenance.
They could attempt to estimate how much you "could" owe if they based it on historical readings, because they might argue you still have access to gas, and therefore could have continued to use it despite the stuck meter reading.
But that would be really underhand and devious
