Looking at this week's forecast hopefully we have reached that point where my central heating will no longer be required until next October or November.
So, that being the case & barring an unseasonable cold snap it looks like my gas use over the last 12 months is ~30% down on the previous 12. Now, I know that it has seemed to me to be a mild winter so I am not surprised that I used less but the size of the drop does surprise me.
How has everybody else done compared to last year?

I have tweaked the running conditions for my CH & a little of the building fabric too since last year so it would be interesting to try to work out how much was due to weather & how much to changes. Unfortunately, the service that I used to use to normalise my consumption records for weather variation no longer seems to be working - can anybody recommend a replacement?

  • I'm about 10% down here in central Bedfordshire. I do think it was milder.

I believe the 8th midest mean temp winter for the UK since 1880's, we heat just with log burner & suprised how little firewood we've used this year.
Can't remember a winter where we've been able to have the doors & windows open so often,  new year was warmer than it is now.

About 14% down for me, comparing March-March time periods.

Looking at the temp data for last winter v this winter that's about what I figured  (~15%) so I guess it's been roughly 50:50 for the savings due to milder weather & my changes.

More feedback from others still very welcome. :)

Thanks, can you figure it across March 21-March 22 (i.e. 12 months)?

so, just to update this at what I really hope is the end of the 21/22 heating season (ch hasn't come on for a few weeks now):
at the end of April 2022 my gas use (heating & hw) for the previous 12 months was 24% down on last year & 25% down on the average for the previous 8 years.

I've halved my gas use. My electricity is the same.
This isn't out of choice though, it's out of necessity. After a massive bill in January I decided to drop my heating to 14c and turn it off if the weather was good.
    It's been freezing cold.

If everyone's average energy usage drops say 20% and Ofgem uses reduced average usage figures of say 9500kWh for Gas and 2500kWh for Electricity, does this lead to a price cap reduction?
