@Thrugelmir I’ll go this Friday, but then after that how many trips can I keep making and using my time and petrol. Would I be able to call police or get baliffs or just some sort of legal action which may be more effective?

What action are you referring to @Aylesbury_Duck ?

Ahh damn, this guy is 24 years old he lives by himself in a 1 bedroom flat, looks like a house that has been converted to 2 flats. @mattyprice4004

You'd send a letter giving him 14 days to return your money or provide the laptop and if he doesn't, you take him to small claims court.

I’ve got details of where he works and employees that may work with him too through LinkedIn and also friends/family members Fb account names from his likes on his latest picture. Is it reasonable to message them and try get it settled through pressuring him through family work and friends?
No, it's not.  Whilst he doesn't appear to have behaved correctly (and there is the slim possibility of course that he or a close relative has been taken suddenly ill, or worse), "pressuring him through family, work and friends" is completely unreasonable.  I wouldn't respond kindly to someone emailing me out of the blue to complain about a private matter involving a colleague or friend, if I were to respond at all.

As advised above, small claims court would be your ultimate course of action, but that letter needs to be sent first.

The police aren't going to be interested (and rightly so), and bailiffs are a long way off yet.

You've only made one trip so far. This forum isn't going to resolve the issue for you. Personally I've made one trip and waited. Though saying that I'd always pay in cash on collection as far as possible.

You have to go to court to get a bailiff.

    From Stepchange

”In most cases, a bailiff can only be sent to your property after court action - either via magistrates' court, High Court or County Court, depending on the debt - has been taken. The exception is HM Revenue & Customs, who can use bailiffs without taking you to court first.”

The small claims court is probably your best bet

    The police won’t get involved

You could try and see of your bank will treat it as fraud. That would result in his bank account being frozen.

Thank you @Aylesbury_Duck  what i meant by the family part is, basically I think I’ve got his mums Fb account, what I meant was to message her and inform her of the situation, if she’s a relative she may be able to talk to him or something.

Okay Yeahh I’ll go Friday and then leave him a letter if he doesn’t respond after that I’ll get the small claim court involved. Do I have sufficient evidence to make a claim? I have screen shot of our whole convo and also my bank statement shows money going into his account with reference dell xps.

@sheramber thank you, I did call the bank last Wednesday (transaction took place Tuesday night) and the lady on the phone informed me payments over £1000 can take upto the next day 10pm, she then checked with fraud and payment check team and they said from Hsbc side it was clear and that they’ve sent the money. She asked if I had made sure that was his account details were correct which I said I think it was since his name matched the name I typed on Hsbc naming app. I could call and tell them i think it’s fraud? But then the name is the same on his bank account.

Leave his mum alone.  It's nothing to do with her if he's an independent adult.  This isn't a school playground matter.

Yes, you have sufficient evidence to make a claim.  He might lie and say you have been given the laptop, but the court will look at both sides and come to a judgement.  With things as you've described, I suspect you'd win.  Whether he still has the laptop, or the funds to be able to hand over, could be another matter.
