    There is no protection for not having paid for the energy you have used since November, they may give you a token gesture for poor customer service (£30-50) but that is all.
    It is hard to imagine you you would not notice that over the winter period you were not actually paying for any electricity...
    They may be willing to let you pay for the catch-up over a longer period, but in reality, if you can afford to just pay it off, you should do that...

    Keep sending them readings. With any luck they'll take over a year to sort it out, then you'll only be liable for the most recent 12 months under back-billing rules.

    How long have you been in your property? You said have not had and issues for 5y, how long have you been aware there’s been an issue with the electric not being billed/DD’s not being taken for electric?
