End of the year suddenly feels very close after I got an email saying fixed rate ISA matures soon. It’s gradually crept forward from the very end of December but still feels like an end of year thing. Rates are lower again, I think I’ll need to switch provider to get a decent rate this time. I’ve given myself the appropriate stern talk about how (1) I’ll be glad of lower rates in a couple of years at mortgage renewal time, and (2) a few years ago the thought of having enough in savings to have interest rates be a consideration, rather than worrying about credit card interest rates, seemed vanishingly far off and I’m lucky to be in this position.Debt at LBM (Dec 2018): £23,167

This morning I accidentally ordered an expensive mug in the Black Friday sales (I’d like to say I slipped and fell and my phone hit buy, but it was more of a case of higher thought processes going offline and inner goblin coming out). Then I ordered some coffee and spices I was waiting until next month’s budget period to order, just for the thrill of buying? To get rid of the open tabs? Who knowsHave also been kicking myself because the other day I ordered some furniture I’d been planning for ages and just waiting to come back into stock, and it’s quite an expensive purchase and for once I remembered to do cashback…except the cashback just doesn’t seem to have tracked at all 🤷♀️ if I go in to do a claim there’s no trail of me clicking on the cashback link on the day I bought it. And my memory and brain fog is so bad I’ve got no idea if my clear memory of hitting the cashback link is actually from
an entirely different day. And the item has gone out of stock again so I can’t even cancel the order and have another go. So nothing to do about it, but I’m taking it as a sign that the first part of 2025 will be a no buy time until I can be trusted to be a proper MSE-r doing cashback and not letting brain gremlins take over. Spending diet definitely required for a reset.Debt at LBM (Dec 2018): £23,167
