The best UK credit card to hire a car

Hello,

I would like to hire a car in the near future, and I have heard that it is better to do it using a credit card, not debit.
Could you advise which UK credit card is better for car hire?

Thanks!

I have just hired a car. One of the T & Cs is that the credit card must be embossed.

Which car hire company requires that then?
Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.

Well if you want to pay £575 per year for the Platinum card you'll get car hire loyalty status and insurance included.

If not, as they've already said, a credit card is a credit card.

Remember seeing it on the T&Cs for some spanish car hire companies on one of the aggregator sites... no idea what would happen if you turned up with a non-embossed card... would be surprised if anyone is using the old click/clack machines even in Spain.

Good point - but there are plenty of ways to get that discount. Plenty of free-to-join Frequent Flyer schemes including Virgin Atlantic, for example, offer the same and you earn points on top.
