To take doorbell or not?

The recent flurry of posts about people leaving things inadvertently has made me think - if I moved would I take my Nest doorbell?  I have a few Nest devices around the house and a rear camera which I'd take for sure. Now thinking about the doorbell/camera and it's not so straightforward. It's a hardwired one, not battery. I could easily unlink it from my account and let the new owner use it.

Would you take your expensive Nest/Ring/... doorbell?

I always look at how hard something is to take with me. Normally if it needs unscrewing such as curtain poles etc then I just leave them. I do not really niggle over the small stuff though.
If it is really expensive and its easy to take with you, then I would put the time into doing it.
  • Yes I’d take a Nest or similar, if it was expensive. Not a bog standard push button bell though.

Surely it depends upon the level of integration and not the cost.

If you have a fully integrated system with lots of gadgets would you remove them all based on cost or would you hope that they were an attractive asset to attract potential purchasers?

I'd never do that: Not the decent thing to do, likely to leave an p***ed off purchaser who will tell all your neighbours etc etc etc

What I think if fair is to, calmly & politely, ask purchaser if they want it or would they prefer you to remove it.

Perhaps the most important thing is to make sure your buyer knows what you're planning to take.

I guess it might cause a bit of disappointment (or maybe a perception of pettiness) for the buyer when they find out that you're not leaving the nest doorbell, thermostat, smoke alarm etc.

If that was my plan, I might remove them before I started the viewings, and replace them with a standard doorbell, thermostat, smoke alarm etc - so there's no misunderstandings.

I wouldn't instal something built in and expensive if I thought I would move soon, so anything like this would be likely to be relatively old by the time I moved and so less of a loss to leave.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Check the manufacturers website as many of these gadgets are tied to your account and can't be moved. I really hope this is something the government clamps down on in future as it's clearly a commercial decision and it would be an easy feature to add.

We have a highly automated home and I've no idea what we are going to do when we move. Even if we managed to get all the accounts transferred, I doubt a new owner would be willing/able to maintain it all. I suspect we would have to replace a few things before marketing.

I would be happy for them to have my Ring doorbell and then I would buy something that could connect to the internet.

Surely that is the point of the fixtures and fitings form (TA10)?
As long as it is clear, and agreed, what is being left and what is being taken, then no problem.
Problems arise when people take (or leave) things the buyer was not expecting.......

The person who sold me my house took the ring doorbell. It was clearly stated on the TA01 and I didnt have a problem with that at all.
