Hi

my son drives a 3 door fiesta and has recently found out his partner is having twins and she’s already got a 2 year old.

can anyone recommend or advise on suitable car?

finances are tight so he needs something cheap to fix and reliable.

thank you

Skoda octavia would be a good size jump, 5 door and a good sized boot.

Anything with rear doors basically - if they can run to an Octavia Estate that has been well serviced, they will have ample boot space for all the stuff that comes with children.  Definitely not an MPV or SUV as they have little in the way of boot space at all

Edited to add that you'll need 3 x isofix points in the back...

It may depend on what you mean by "SUV".  It originally meant a big chunky 4x4 vehicle, and these usually have a large boot.  The trouble is that so many manufacturers now are describing a hatchback with jacked up suspension as an "SUV".  These are all too often big on the outside, but small and cramped on the inside.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

In terms of getting in at least a double buggy & all the other requirements in the boot. Many so called MPV/SUV's will struggle.

I'd agree with the SUV comment to an extent, though they tend to be a bit higher up which is handy for car seats.

MPV's however, are pretty much the best thing for boot space and families. You may need to get an MPV to fit 3 isofix seats in the back.

On a budget I'd be looking for any estate car, but ideally an MPV like the Zafira.  Do they have a double buggy yet? Because you'll need to find something that'll fit that in the boot above all. I'd get the buggy and take it with you to see how well it fits in cars before you buy them.

That's the problem, particularly on a tight budget.

Cars like the latest VW Touran have isofix on every passenger seat but they come at a large cost.

The lastest Berlingo, Rifter, Vauxhall Combo Life have 3 isofix in the middle row of seats, they tend to be a little cheaper again.
The older 2008 based Berlingo and Partner only had the two outer rear seats with isofix.

I think the Ford S-Max, 2006 to 2014 has three isofix in a row on the middle row of seats.
One of them might come in on budget.

Xsara Picasso or C4 Picasso if the budget is larger.

The likes of the Sharan/Galaxy aren't great for useable boot space in my view.  In my Mazda once my son's buggy is in there isn't a lot of space for anything else.  Without 3 isofix in the rear, mum will have to sit between the two outer seats while the 2 year old rides shotgun
