We live by the sea and when it’s windy, it’s WINDY!! Trouble is we have an air vent in our bedroom which becomes really noisy and makes sleeping quite a problem. Anyone had this problem and solved it please?

A vent is supposed to be draughty, but is it really needed in a bedroom?

Age of house, dB? Type of wall construction? And this vent comes into the actual room, and is not in underfloor type?
Any other rooms have one?
And, do you have any condensation problems in the house?

And these vents come in to the bedrooms? They are not under the floor? If in the bedrooms, are they are at low level, high, or one of each!Sort term - just cover them on the inside. When that demonstrates that there are no adverse outcomes - condensation and stuff - then I'd be inclined to remove the inside cover, and cut a block of insulation to match the inner wall skin. Or use spray foam - block the back of the inner skin with card, and then full flush. Finish with p'board and a filler skim to blend in.Ideally, I think you'd want the liners removed, but I don't think that's necessary and would be a lot more work.If they are making a noise/causing a draft/losing you heat, then just cover them. What's the worst that could happen?! :-)2

In a 1920s house I had one of these. No fire in bedroom.
As a child I had snow on the bed one night!
Grew up and stuffed the vents with cotton wool and taped a bit of cardboard over first to see what would happen. Nothing but being warmer.
I then used filler and cut a piece of hardboard to fit. Then plastered over.
Agree though, if the open/close vents work it could be useful in summerI can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
