HSBC - Utterly useless app! - Any tips

Guys, I seldom use HSBC as it's not my main bank, however, on the last few occasions it's been a torturous experience. I wonder if others are experiencing this and have any tips? - I'm on the most up to date version of the app (which seems to be my first problem!)..

Essentially if you login 'normally' via the app it's fine, however, if you try to generate a security code, type in your password after 9 characters it seems to hit a hard stop and not allow you to type in the last two! - Consequently logging in via desktop, or doing any actions like changing an address seem to be impossible! I've even tried copy/paste and it won't allow it, and even typing the last two characters first then doing the rest of the password etc.

Any tips?! Right now I'm thinking of ditching HSBC all together, it's the linked account for Premium Bonds though, so that's an extra pain.!

Rant over!

I use HSBC and generate my codes via face recognition - takes a second at most.... Have you tried that?

Found the hsbc app painful to use as well, so switched it elsewhere

Just switch if it's no good for you, there are plenty of apps that work fine.

Nope, alas it doesn't seem to be an option for me. Oddly, if you enter your password when prompted, *not* on the main app login screen it seems to cap it at 9 characters, if you enter the remaining (in my case) two characters, it doesn't show the dots to show they have been entered, however, doing that and hitting enter does work. So, address changed, eventually, on the fourth attempt. Hopefully I'll just keep it open for the odd PB win coming in!

What about using your fingerprint to access the app?

I've just opened a First Direct account and it sounds like the app has similar features.

After a lot of failed attempts to login I realised that the password details I was being asked to enter ended with it requesting, for example, the 2nd last character, whereas I was just counting across and filling the required gaps in sequence.

I haven't come across this in other banking apps so it didn't occur to me to actually read what it wanted me to input.

What handset are you using - and which build of operating system ?
  • My HSBC app works fine.
I use the fingerprint option to login or generate a code for internet banking.

It's the latest build of the app and its a Same A52. It did work fine till the most recent updates. I have it sorted for now but it does seem troublesome. I'll give fingerprint a go next time. Cheers guys :)

The secure key password which is the password you appear to be trying to type in is between 6 and 9 characters only (not any more than that) . You are possibly mixing this up with another password, the only banking password, which is only used in a few particular circumstances (that password is between 8 and 30 characters long)
