Working in IT I would be inclined to leave your router on 24/7.

Repeated switching it off and on again will cause problems further down the road and this also applies to PCs and laptops and NAS boxes that some people suggest switching off at night.

The problem is that it causes undue wear on hard drives that will eventually cause the device to fail.
Hardly any modern PC or Laptop has a hard drive in it now. In the context of a NAS I agree, but they are pretty rate in home usage.
Surprisingly some of my customers still have old SFFs with 512G or 1T HDDs purely for gaming or media centre storage. A lot of them can't be bothered with SSDs despite all the advantages.
I would agree tin with SSDs are far more durable against failure, but if people are concerned about saving power, especially at night, then setting up a quick script in Windows Terminal or Task Scheduler to shut the box down at a certain time is a must.

Or just set a sleep/hibernate on idle.

Oh , they exist - but you will pay a pretty penny for them.

You're probably far above the "typical" home user of computer equipment too.
Having said that, I regularly support people who are more senior in age and tend to have computer equipment given to them by children and/or grandchildren. Essentially cast-off equipment the original owner has replaced with something new and shiny, probably with SSD's!
Such domestic users won't know about or have any interest in the SSD/HDD topic, just like they won't have any sort of backup policy. Ask anyone who fields "support" calls from such friends & relatives. :)

Going back to the original question, my router lets me schedule times to switch WiFi off whilst remaining connected to the wider internet and this halves the power used at such times. I use this overnight and on weekdays when I'll be at work.
  • That's interesting. My router is from Talk Talk, anyone able to do that with a similar router?.

I know the blue light is quite bright and annoying, but not sure you are saving much power there!

Only question is why not turn the light off all the time?
  • The blue light doesn't bother me I am in bed upstairs. It's just I don't want to cause unstable speeds if I switch off over night.

Solar panels take care of it during the day.
