My tip for selling would be to search what you are selling first, check the prices of all items like yours that are available, and then click on "completed listings" to see what the item will sell for. use that info to set your price, if you are not in a rush pick the highest price you find(or higher), if you are desperate to sell it (i.e the item is taking up space or you are in need of cash) then set your price towards the lower end of the bracket.
99% of my items listed I never bother to select the category or input most of the item specifics, all I do is search the item name, look at what's on offer and study the prices, and the pick one listing close to mine and click on "sell one like this"
then all you have to do is change a few minor details as most of it is already there, add pics, set the postage price , set the price and it's done. this saves a lot of time.
I list a lot of items that will sell on average 1 year later, I think that if your item is properly described and fairly priced it will 100% sell, but I won't go as far to put a time limit on that1 -
I am a relative newcomer to selling on EBay but one tip I would add is to remember that they charge their fee on the postage charge as well as the selling price. I mainly sell classical CDs which carry a 10.667% charge, so if you don't want to be out of pocket on postage, you need to gross up the postage cost to take this into account (multiply by 100 and divide by 89.333)..1

If you are selling things where someone might likely buy more than one, think about this with combined postage. If 'free' postage is included in the price there is no incentive for someone to buy two things from you, rather than one from you and one from someone else. If they can buy two items and only pay one postage fee they may be more likely to buy both from you. But do be realistic - this is most likely if you are selling stuff in a particular niche.

I find that when I have watchers on my items and eBay suggest sending an offer to interested buyers, if I send the minimum 5% discount or more then often I get a sale soon after on the specific item at the full price.Leading me to believe sending watchers offers gives the listing a boost in visibility.0
