I was on a fixed deal with Plusnet which expired recently. It was basic broadband (not fibre) and landline and I was paying £18.99 per month. I was given a speed estimate of 11mbps
As it was coming to an end they offered me another 18 months fixed deal and after looking around I took that up and the cost was £20.22 per month, but the speed estimate had dropped to 6 mbps although it was meant to be a continuation of the same service.
This months bill (the second on this new fix) has just come in at £23.49 (no calls, just basic price).
Can any light be shone on the jumping price and differing speed estimates? I have noticed that my connection has dropped speed since the new fix and yet I can't see any reason for it.

It's simply the way they have to now advertise the minimum, guaranteed speed. If you were really achieving 11mbps before then you should still get that again. Sounds like you're still on an ADSL service, use the link below to see if FTTC or even FTTP is available to you.

Thanks. It was the sneaky price increase that got me. Yes I am occasionally still getting the old top speed, but the new quoted speed is far more likely and it never used to be like that. Age of infrastructure and possibly more customers may be the cause?0

I wound guess that this months bill will have the increase of 3.9%+CPI ( approx 9.3%) applied to it.. The plusnet bill should itemise the change in Line Rental rates.1
