I have seen on tv people in india making it by putting cream or full fat milk in the washing machine on a spin cycle.
I have not dared try it, but it did work for them ;D

A lot of people on the River Cottage Forums seem to make their own butter for the hell of it. The most popular method seems to be two or three large tubs of double cream thrown in to a food mixed - on the Kenwood they call it a "K" whisk, which means nothing to me.
They say it tastes a great deal better than shop butter - you can salt it or leave it unsalted. I think they said you can also freeze it.
What sounds to me like the best bit is that what doesn't turn in to butter is buttermilk, which is pretty expensive in the shops, and hard to find anyway. You can use it for drinks, scones, bread, and pancakes to name just a few things.
Unfortunately, haven't got food mixer and am afraid to try in food processor, so this is just hearsay. If anyone wants to know more I'll have a look for the threads on this and post a link.0 -
I tried this in the food processor last night just put the cream in and mixed it till it looked like butter. It didn't taste at all like butter, think I must have done something wrong!
Anyway I put icing sugar in it and topped the fairy cakes I made with it as not to waste it! ;D0 -
quite often it doesn't taste like you would expect, cos its not salty and full of preservatives like shop bought butter.0

Could be but it just tasted like cream! Like I say with some icing suger in, it made good frosting for the fairy cakes!0

It might be worth trying with whipping cream. When I whip it for cakes it takes a relatively short time even by hand to get it in peaks, so I imagine that if I kept going it would turn into butter.
Going to give it a try in the food processor one of these days.

We made this at school when i was little using a small plastic bottle and full-fat milk. Never used to get much butter out of it - enough for one or two slices with 1/4 pint of milk - but it was lovely!Debt free date: October 2006 :money:0
